Miley Cyrus is Going So Undercover, and I'm So There

As the world mourns the loss of Undercovers on television (not really, nobody's mourning), others are getting ready to celebrate new undercover antics on the big screen. No, it's not the long-awaited sequel to 2002's Undercover Brother, although that would admittedly be awesome. No, it's the newest Miley Cyrus movie, So Undercover, in which she plays a "tough, street-smart private eye" who infiltrates a college sorority. First of all, OMG. Second of all, let's just break down why this is so fantastic.

1. Miley Cyrus is Neither Tough nor Street-Smart.
Keep in mind, this is an action-comedy we're talking about, and picturing her busting perps makes me laugh harder than when Keira Knightley played a bounty hunter who got her men by performing lap dances in Domino. On the other hand, the fact that Miley's only 17 will actually make the scenes of her blending in at a sorority more believable -- unlike, say, Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed, who looked as much like a high-school girl as I do.

2. I Miss Undercover Movies
Hiding Out, Plain Clothes, the aforementioned Never Been Kissed... all fun "adults going undercover at school" movies, but all at least ten years old. Sadly, the genre seems to have fizzled out, mainly because the idea of adults pretending to be high-schoolers today raises questions of ethics, appropriateness and believability. Miley's age and the movie's college setting should negate that a bit, putting it into the same "adults going undercover as less-threatening adults" category as cinematic classics like Miss Congeniality, Kindergarten Cop and The Substitute.

3. This Is the Closest We'll Get to a Veronica Mars Movie
Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell have been talking about it for years, but it's never gonna happen, so why not settle for a less awesome teenage-girl detective solving crimes on a college campus? I've settled for far worse.

What do you think of this movie? Will you see it? Let us know below, then see how we wish Kristen Bell's career had gone differently.

I just can't WAIT to see her fall hopelessly in love with the, like, totally cutest guy in school!!!! Squeal! And then he'll find out she's not really a college student, and get all mad, and then they'll make up (and make out) at the end!!

I'd much rather watch "Harry Loves Lisa" and pretend it's the Echolls spinoff I always wanted than pretend this is anything resembling a substitute for a VM movie...
