I Want My DVD: Tuesday, March 8, 2011

It's Mardi Gras! To celebrate the Feast of Fools, it seems like the DVD releases are about reasonable people doing stupid things.

Jackass 3-D
Johnny Knoxville seems like a down-to-earth kind of guy, and he's an okay actor, at least while he is standing next to Steve-O. Considering that, it's really a shame that he seems destined to make movies that feature him deliberately hurting himself until he breaks himself beyond repair.

Four Lions
Becoming radicalized for certain beliefs is the mark of many terrorists today, but after that initial decision to blow oneself up, life becomes pretty absurd. Rather, it does for these characters in this Chris Morris comedy. And if you like this movie you should check out Morris's less politically charged British TV shows. He really is underrated in the US.

Inside Job
In this day and age it's rare to find an interesting documentary about anything that doesn't resort to gimmicks or name-calling. Charles Ferguson actually does this and actually shows the financial meltdown as something complex and beyond any one cause.

The Next Three Days
Sure, it's a bit slow in parts, mostly predictable, and kind of cheesy (see everything Liam Neeson says). So you probably won't watch it today, but you will watch this movie and like it a bit too much someday in the future. (Also available via Movies on Demand.)

Morning Glory
Sometimes it's like Harrison Ford wants us to forget that he's Indiana Jones, so he decides to make a horrible, horrible movie. But since he made Crystal Skull, he hasn't been able to stop making awful movies.

Also out this week: The Man from Nowhere, The Fernando Di Leo Crime Collection and Zombie Farm.

New to Blu-ray: Exit Through the Gift Shop, Excalibur, and The Dorm that Dripped Blood.
