Bridesmaids Punches Other Bridal Movies Right in the Boob

It's rare that a movie about a wedding comes along that doesn't make me want to throw up. After all, for every The Proposal there's a Bride Wars, a Something Borrowed and a 27 Dresses. Kristen Wiig's idea to collaborate with Judd Apatow to make a wedding movie that anyone can enjoy could have been a disaster, but the end result really does have something for everybody: the typical-guy moviegoers most movies seem to cater to, the ladies who even go to see the clearly awful wedding movies, and anyone who simply likes good comedy. Here are just a few of the numerous moviegoing subgroups who might enjoy this movie.

For the Ladies: Wiig's aspirations to be a cupcake baker are likely shared with many a young lass, even if, like Wiig's character, they simply want to bake themselves a delicious cupcake and eat it. And her feelings of envy, monetary concerns and fear of loneliness as her friend's wedding fast approaches are probably familiar to anyone who's ever pulled maid-of-honor duties for their best friend.

For the Dudes: Raunch, raunch, raunch, from Wiig's comedic sex scenes with self-proclaimed "fuckbuddy" Jon Hamm to the explosive puking/pooping dress fitting that ends in the middle of the street. And while there are no nut shots, there is plenty of the female equivalent: tennis balls to the boob.

For the SNL Fans: Not only do you get Wiig and Maya Rudolph bro-ing out, you get to see Wiig playing to her strengths, including an engagement-party game of one-upmanship with Rose Byrne that brings to mind Wiig's Penelope character and a destructive bridal shower freakout like she's unsuccessfully trying to hold in a surprise. Plus: Melanie Hutsell cameo!

For Fans of British TV: Not only does Chris O'Dowd (The IT Crowd) play the love interest/inexplicably Irish cop, but Matt Lucas also makes the trip over from Little Britain (playing Wiig's roommate).

For Fans of American TV: Rose Byrne does a 180 from her Damages role, as well, playing a perfectionist trophy wife, and The Office's Erin (Ellie Kemper) and Reno 911's Clementine (Wendi McLendon-Covey) play fellow members of the bridal party who bond on a drunken plane trip. And Melissa McCarthy, formerly known as chef Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls, steals every scene as a sexually and physically aggressive bridesmaid.

For Wilson Phillips Lovers: Those still exist, right? The band is frequently referenced and even makes the obligatory appearance.

For Wedding-Movie Suckers: Rest assured, all you bridal idols out there, that there is plenty of strictly wedding-based humor. The movie focuses a lot on Wiig's personal life, but the way her life affects the engagement party, the bridal luncheon/dress fitting, the bachelorette party, the bridal shower and the wedding itself is where the comedy comes in. Think five little Lady Hangovers all rolled into one.
