Oz the Great and Powerful: Zach Braff Describes His On-Set Monkeyshines

Zach Braff changes in his doctor's scrubs for a pair of wings in Oz the Great and Powerful, the Sam Raimi-directed Wizard of Oz prequel that opens in theaters on Friday. The former Scrubs star actually pulls double duty in the film, starting out as the human friend and accomplice of carnival-huckster-turned-(fake) wizard Oscar Diggs and then transforming into a flying monkey (don't worry, he's the friendly kind) when the action shifts to the merry old land of Oz. Braff spoke with us about his simian alter ego, working with the director of Spider-Man and the connection between the Oz franchise and a short film from his distant past.

21 and Over: Project X Goes to College

Last year's Project X took the house party movie to the next level by introducing some gross stuff we hadn't seen before, and 21 and Over seems to be continuing in that genre as a "one wild night in college" movie -- like Superbad on steroids.

Stoker: All in the Family

Stoker: All in the Family

Here's how I like to imagine the way that the making of Stoker, the only vaguely indie-ish new thriller from Fox Searchlight, went down: Screenwriter Wentworth Miller (yes, the same Wentworth Miller who got Mariah Carey all hot and bothered in a music video and then spent four seasons breaking out of various fake prisons on television) turned in his script, and then the studio took one look at it and realized its wannabe Hitchcockian tale of a twisted family was never going to fly if played straight. So they bought playfully perverse South Korean director Park Chan-wook a plane ticket from Seoul to the movie's Tennessee set, whereupon they handed him the screenplay and told him to just go nuts with it. The result is one of the most beautifully directed bad movies I've seen since the immortal Brian De Palma trifecta of Snake Eyes, Mission to Mars and Femme Fatale (known unofficially as De Palma's Trilogy of Awesome Awfulness). Thanks to Park's endless creativity behind the camera, it's impossible to look away from Stoker, even when what's happening on the screen is truly risible.

Four Surprising Things About Snitch

Four Surprising Things About Snitch

Given that it's being dumped into theaters at the tail end of February right before Oscar night, one would expect for Snitch to be yet another disposable Dwayne Johnson action programmer where the content is as generic as the one-word title -- think Faster and Doom. But in this case, looks are somewhat deceiving, as the film turns out to be one of Johnson's stronger star vehicles, one deserving of a better box office fate that awaits it this weekend. If you do decide to drop a dime on Snitch either now or, more likely, on cable a few months from now, here are four things about the movie that will surprise you.

Five Things to Know About Beautiful Creatures

Five Things to Know About Beautiful Creatures

Nothing says Valentine's Day like young love, picturesque rural landscapes, attractive twentysomething actors pretending to be teenagers... and witchcraft. All of these elements are on display in Beautiful Creatures, a supernatural love story that's seeking to own Valentine's Day in the way that the not-so-dearly departed Twilight series owned Thanksgiving. But before you drag your significant other to a post-candlelit dinner showing of this particular creature feature, here are five things you really should know about what you're getting into.

A Good Day to Die Hard: A Bad Day to be a Die Hard Fan

A Good Day to Die Hard: A Bad Day to be a Die Hard Fan

What the hell is this crap? No, seriously... what the hell is it? A Good Day to Die Hard may carry the Die Hard name and feature Bruce Willis back in the role of superhero cop John McClane, but it's about as far from the spirit of the original Die Hard as you can possibly get. That this utterly disposable, entirely generic piece of action movie mayhem is allowed to advertise itself under the Die Hard banner is a travesty. Really, the title should be Bruce Willis Blows Shit Up in Russia, which is a far more accurate reflection of the film's content, not to mention its sheer contempt for the audience.
