So you say you've been waiting for a sequel to Zack Snyder's fast-zombie remake of Dawn of the Dead? Too bad! Seriously though, Zack Snyder is producing a movie called Army of the Dead, but it apparently has absolutely no narrative connection to Dawn of the Dead. Also, he's not directing it. Sigh. Watchmen had better be totally awesome, or I'm gonna be pissed.
Snyder has drafted a Dutch commercial director named Matthijs van Heijningen, Jr. (not to be confused with his 65-year-old producer father; see some of his work here) to helm the project about a father in a quarantined Las Vegas trying to save his daughter from zombies. Plans call for a lot of wide, epic shots showing thousands of zombies. It has not been reported whether these thousands of zombies will be running full-tilt or just shuffling around looking hungry, but I'm hoping it's the former.
I also wonder if they're going to change the name, considering that earlier this year saw the release of a straight-to-DVD movie that was also called Army of the Dead and featured a squad of zombie conquistadors.
