New Moon Gets New Director and Maybe New Werewolf As everyone knows by now, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke isn't directing the sequel, New Moon. Apparently, she's being replaced by Chris Weitz, who previously directed The Golden Compass. Weitz reportedly has a "solid relationship" with the big wigs at Summit Entertainment and although Weitz's agency has not confirmed the deal, Summit has "stopped negotiations" with other director hopefuls. Pre-production for the film could begin as early as this Monday. This isn't the only big change looming, though, as Summit might be looking to replace their original Jacob Black.

Sources (oh so mysterious, they are) told EW.com that "the studio doesn't want to rehire baby-faced Taylor Lautner" to play their hunky werewolf. (Then why'd they hire baby-faced Taylor Lautner for the first movie? Did they get his baby-faced headshots mixed up with someone else's manlier headshots?) Supposedly, Lautner's agents have been working with the special effects gurus behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to show execs what the teen actor would look like with more meat on his bones. Either he's going to have to pray hard for an immediate and massive growth spurt or go on a steak-n-steroid diet, because they want this puppy out for November 2009.
