Scary monsters. Super creeps. Sienna Miller. All are represented in this week's new movies on DVD, as wolverines, wolfmen, zombies and overrated actresses stalk the moors. And by moors, we mean Best Buy.

I Want My DVD was getting out of control, so drastic action has been taken. No, we haven't instituted a ban on Mickey Rourke -- the dude will act in anything, but we'll still cover all of his movies, even the weird ones. No, we've removed TV shows from the mix and given them their own home. For the latest television releases, you can check out TV on DVD over in the Telefile. All movie releases will remain right here, just in time for us to call out one of our favorite movies of the year, as well as a couple of the worst.

What a difference a year makes. Around this time in 2008, geeks were buzzing about the Watchmen teaser trailer and the exclusive footage presented by director Zack Snyder and the complete cast at San Diego Comic-Con. This was going to be the superhero movie that would Change. Superhero. Movies. Forever. Now, on the eve of another SDCC, the director's cut of the film has just been released on DVD in a decidedly different atmosphere -- one in which Watchmen is considered not only a box-office failure (despite being the second highest-grossing R-rated release of the year so far) but also a huge disappointment to large pockets of its core audience, nerds who have been message-board screaming their displeasure like an abattoir full of retarded children (sorry, couldn't resist).

Despite being a devoted fan of Neil Gaiman's printed works, I somehow didn't get the chance to see Coraline in the theaters, due to various life interferences. However, I was thrilled with delight when I received a copy in the mail the other day... complete with a little promotional mobile (it went right next to the one that I had from the Stardust graphic novel). I wanted to watch the film in its 3D format, as all of my friends had raved about how cool the stop-motion looked, but I ended up feeling like a fat kid from a Kevin Smith movie staring at a Magic Eye poster and never getting to see the sailboat.

TV lovers, there's a lot of TV coming out on DVD today, plus Tyler Perry's Friday the 13th, The Seventh Seal: Extended Killer Cut and the Criterion Collection edition of Madea Goes to Jail. Just kidding, although I would watch any and all of those movies. But first: the cartoon that inspired Michael Bay to have a robot pee on John Turturro.

Yes, I know new DVDs came out yesterday, but compiling all of the nominees for our annual Tubey awards and interviewing sexy Species star Natasha Henstridge took precedent for the day, so I'm just getting to this now. Too bad, because yesterday was a heck of a day to go DVD shopping. I suppose today can be, as well -- I doubt stores have sold out of Gran Torino.

It's a hell of a day for DVD releases, with a bunch of big films coming out for the first time, but I'm most excited about a TV show, one whose second season is about to start up in a brilliant bit of cross-promotional marketing. I've also got news of a movie that debuts on-demand tonight, plus the DVD release of a Web series that's never even aired on TV -- that's right, we're breaking all the rules!

If I were a film director, I would be sticking references to other films into my movies all over the place. They would be films I admired, mostly, which means that somewhere, sometime, I would probably put in a reference to Donnie Darko, a personal favorite. Now, imagine that somebody made a movie that was entirely Donnie Darko references. Would it be a sequel to Donnie Darko? A tribute? A fan fiction? Considering that S. Darko stars Daveigh Chase as the grown-up version of her D. Darko character, Samantha from Sparkle Motion, the movie is obviously trying to be a sequel, but the only thing that separates this from fan fiction is that somebody gave the director Briana Evigan, Ed Westwick and a lot of money and let him make it into a movie.
