I Want My DVD: Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Today's releases are primarily either terrible or are really, really good, but really, really depressing. It's kind of a soul-crushing I Want My DVD edition. Sorry.

Fast & Furious
You go, Vin Diesel!

Dragonball: Evolution
Quite possibly the most forgettable thing that will come out this year. Rent it if you have a gift certificate and like movies that are awful, but don't ever give this thing your money.

The Land That Time Forgot
C. Thomas Howell and the guy who goes around imitating George W. Bush all the time go to dinosaur island, and according to the one Amazon review that exists for it, they also encounter some Nazis there? It's like Lost meets The Sound of Music meets Jurassic Park meets WTF. And it's yours for the low, low price of 22 dollars! And yes that is the sale price. Those Nazi dinosaurs don't provide their own costumes, you know.

Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5
The final episodes of the most depressing show in recent memory have finally arrived to give your Mad Men DVDs a break. Normally I like to suggest a drinking game when a complete series becomes available, but you really shouldn't be drunk when you watch that show if you care at all about your emotional well-being.

Torchwood: Children of Earth
Speaking of upbeat, peppy, care-free tales, this miniseries is available too. But seriously, it's summer. Aren't we supposed to be frolicking all happy-like in a field of daisies or something? Today's DVD releases are the anti-daisies, for real.

Dollhouse: Season One
Along with the entire first season, this set contains that much-anticipated extra episode which I've heard is a pretty fascinating flash forward. You don't have to watch it to follow next season, from what I understand, but it's supposed to be a nice companion to it if you've got the time.

Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead
Ahh, this thing. Find out what we thought of it here. (We hated it.)

The Middleman: The Complete Series
A well-meaning, perfectly enjoyable series gone prematurely. Sad, but a fact of life, even on cable, unfortunately.
