What separates the Best Actresses from the Worst Actresses? Is it as simple as getting good material? Or does the actress need to have the talent to back it up? After all, anyone can play a woman with multiple personalities, but how many can make it believable, and not like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch? We're drawing a line between the best from the worst in our first-annual Movies Without Pity Awards, and we need your help!
Best Actress has a lot of familiar faces -- Natalie, Anne, Jennifer, Nicole -- but also some faces the big awards shows forgot. Now's your chance to vote for them! Ditto the Worst Actresses of the Year -- Christina, Katherine, Kristen, Cameron -- who made you retch into your popcorn the most? You can vote for those two categories and nine others, in this week's round of voting. Fresh categories will be available at the beginning of each week and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18. Plus, we've created a Facebook app so you can share your votes with your friends!

We love a good kids' movie. Sometimes it really helps to just kick back and watch a fun adventure with ridiculous characters, over-the-top cuteness and plenty of marketing tie-ins. But then, most kids' movies are at least partially made with the adult in mind, and pack plenty of adult-friendly humor, and for this we thank them. On the other hand, some kiddie flicks are so nonsensical that they might actually make our children dumber. We're trying to suss out the difference in our first-annual Movies Without Pity Awards!
Toy Story 3 was certainly a movie for all ages, but was it the Most Adult-Friendly Kids' Movie? What about live-action kiddie fare like Alice in Wonderland or The Sorcerer's Apprentice? And when it comes to dumb, is it Marmaduke, Furry Vengeance or another talking-animal flick that'll take home the title of Children's Movie that Insults Even Children's Intelligence? You can vote for those two categories, as well as nine others, in this week's round of voting. Fresh categories will be available at the beginning of each week and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18. With panic and cowardice firmly entrenched in Hollywood, remakes are the name of the game, as familiar concepts and past hits have taken the place of original ideas and new franchises. And while it occasionally produces a winner, very often the result is inferior to what's come before. Now, it's time for you to vote with your bruised and battered memories, in our first-annual Movies Without Pity Awards!
Was True Grit the best remake, or was it The Karate Kid? Was The Last Airbender the one that most failed to surpass its source material, or was that Yogi Bear? Vote right the first time, because in the MWoP Awards, there are no do-overs. Fresh categories will be available at the beginning of each week and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18. Nicolas Cage. Johnny Depp. Sam Worthington. Mark Wahlberg. Russell Brand. You either love them or you hate them. We know how we feel, but we want all of our readers to get the chance to give their two cents, which is why four of the categories in the latest round of the Movies Without Pity Awards are all about acting.
Who will be the Best Actor of 2010 The Worst? Who was the Best Breakout Star? Who had the Least Successful "Take Me Seriously" Role? You'll have a week to vote on these categories and seven others before the next round, and don't forget to vote on Facebook, where you can weigh in on even more topics. Fresh categories will be available on the site every Monday, and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18!

You can have a huge budget, the best actors and a talented director, but it doesn't mean squat unless you've got a good script. It's the foundation upon which you build your movie, and if your foundation is full of holes, or is unstable or flimsy, the whole thing will come tumbling down. We're calling out the Best and Worst Screenplays of 2010 in our first annual Movies Without Pity Awards!
Which will take best? Inception? True Grit? How about worst? The Last Airbender? Date Night? Well, this week, you can vote in these categories and nine others, including Best Comedy, Worst Actor and Best Movie More People Should Have Seen! You'll have a week to vote on these categories before the next round, and don't forget to vote on Facebook, where you can weigh in on even more topics. Fresh categories will be available on the TWoP site every Monday, and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18!

The horror genre is a low-budget filmmaker's best friend. After all, it doesn't take a lot of money to scare people, since there are scary forests pretty much everywhere, and you don't have to worry too much about sets when people are walking around in the dark with the power out. And yet, a horror movie with a massive budget and a cast of hundreds can be one of the dumbest, least scary movies ever made. We're celebrating the dichotomy in our first annual Movies Without Pity Awards!
Which movie was the Best Horror Movie of 2010? Was it that one with that guy in that thing with the knives? Or that one with those people who were all gross? Well, this week, you can vote in that category and ten others, including Best Comedy, Worst Actor and Best Screenplay! You'll have a week to vote on these categories before the next round, and don't forget to vote on Facebook, where you can weigh in on even more topics. Fresh categories will be available on the TWoP site every Monday, and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18!

The Academy Award nominees have been announced, and they're... eerily familiar! The actor nominees almost mirror the SAG Award nominees, and all of the Golden Globe nominees for Best Drama, Best Screenplay and Best Director (well, except one) are represented. There are still some oversights, but no real upsets, except maybe in the director category. Somewhere in Gotham City, a bat is crying.
Okay, we felt kind of bad about last week. Worst Horror Movie, Worst Comedy... there was a lot of negative energy going around. Well, we're trying to focus on the positive this week, with new, rah-rah categories including Best Actor, Best Comedy, Best Action Movie and Best Movie More People Should Have Seen. Why the sudden 180? Hey, that's just the way we play things here at the first annual Movies Without Pity Awards.
Sure, it's not all positive -- we've also got Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay, so you have a place to keep your bile -- but overall it's a good week to be a nominee in the MWoP Awards. You'll have a week to vote on these categories before the next round, and don't forget to vote on Facebook, where your disdain is always kept private and never sold to others. Fresh categories will be available on the TWoP site every Monday, and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18!

Every young ingénue goes through it at some point -- the moment when they try to shake off their good-boy or good-girl image by embracing more mature subject matter. Sometimes it's a revelatory moment, and their career takes off, but often it's a laughable disaster. This year, we're paying tribute to those brave kids who went out on a limb to finally be taken seriously and fell flat on their faces, in our first annual Movies Without Pity Awards!
Which High School Musical actor was unable to shake off their singing and dancing past? Which former child actress failed to convince us they were a hard-edged rock 'n roller? Vote in our new category, "Least Successful 'Please Start Taking Me Seriously' Role" to let us know, and vote in the rest of the Round 3 categories as well! You'll have a week to vote on these categories before the next round, and don't forget to vote on Facebook, where the scores can really change! Fresh categories will be available on the TWoP site every Monday, and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18.

Sci-fi and fantasy are dual-edged swords -- sci-fi can explore new ideas, but it can also kill brain cells, while fantasy can re-invigorate our mythology or simply re-hash numerous fairy-tale tropes. Having given us some of the best movies ever made, as well as the worst, we owe sci-fi and fantasy our love, as well as our hate. So we thought they deserved their own category in our first annual Movies Without Pity Awards!
Despite their ravenous fan bases, you may think Harry Potter has puttered out, or that Twilight needs to be eclipsed, and this may well be your only chance to tell the world that you thought Inception was awful. And "Worst Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie" is but one category in the latest round of MWoP Awards -- there are ten other categories to vote in, as well, including "Worst Horror" and "Worst Comedy"! And be sure to check back next week and vote in the "Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie" category! Plus, don't forget to vote on Facebook, as well, where there are totally different categories in which to cast your vote! Fresh categories will be available on the TWoP site every Monday, and the ultimate winners will be announced February 18.
