MacGyver, Sheena and Steven Seagal Walk Into a Best Buy…

A strange triumvirate of pop-culture icons came together Tuesday in New York City to introduce Best Buy's new Black Tie Protection -- which seems to feature Geek Squad members who dress like Chuck and protect your gadgets from infiltration. Or something. Anyway, Rather than getting Chuck, Best Buy brought three famous "protectors" to their Columbus Circle branch: Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver, Stargate: SG-1), Tanya Roberts (Charlie's Angels, A View to a Kill) and Steven Seagal (Hard to Kill, Marked for Death, Out for Justice... the list goes on and on). They arrived individually, in Geek Squad vehicles, with the plan that each of them would briefly discuss their character histories, their technical prowess and the importance of protection with a DJ from Z-100, who was acting as hostess. Anderson and Roberts' entrances went off more or less without a hitch, but once Seagal showed up, things got a little weird.

Walking into the stage area, where his two co-stars were already sitting with the hostess, Seagal instantly covered his eyes and stared at the lights in disbelief. "Why are those lights so bright?" he asked, as if he had never been on a red carpet or a talk show. (I mean, yeah, he probably doesn't go to that many, but he's had to have been on at least one, right?) Anyway, he walked around to the back of the audience -- without setting foot on stage, mind you -- to find out who could turn the lights down. It took a few minutes, but once they had pretty much turned the lights off completely, Seagal agreed to take his seat. (Question: Is Seagal a vampire? If so, how did he get so tan?)

Needless to say, Tanya Roberts was ticked off. Once Seagal had finished his interview about protection, Roberts asked if her light could be turned back on, because she thought she looked better under it. Seagal debated that point with her, but eventually Anderson and Roberts were well-lit again, sitting next to a shrouded-in-darkness Seagal, who now looked like a secret source in a Dateline interview. The audience was asked if they had any questions, at which point an old woman took the opportunity to tell Anderson and Seagal that she was a big fan of their work. (She didn't seem to have anything to say to Roberts.) Afterwards, I got the chance to ask some questions -- hit the links to check out my interviews with Roberts and Seagal! (Richard Dean Anderson caught the first Stargate out of Dodge.)
