Ever since they began revealing the fresh-faced young Enterprise crew and their Macbook-looking bridge, we've been worried about J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek movie. Would it pay tribute to the classic show that had come before it, and manage to simultaneously honor and ignore the easily enraged fan base? As more and more trailers and clips surface, and reports roll in from the privileged few who've seen it, the answer seems to be "yes." With some notable exceptions, the Enterprise crew is the spitting image of the crew that came before, and we compared each and every crew member to their predecessor to make sure. It seems everyone, from high-ranking Hollywood executives to Joe car enthusiasts to hipster entertainment columnists, knew that Fast & Furious would do well in theaters this past weekend. After all, the only other new film was the indie comedy Adventureland, which isn't exactly Superbad, and the biggest threat from last weekend's holdovers was the kid-targeted Monsters vs. Aliens. But the film actually surpassed expectations, bringing in $72 million in the U.S. alone, giving it the biggest April opening of all time, plus another $30 mill from overseas. All of a sudden, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster are moneymakers, and they're gonna be getting a lot of offers in the wake of this. If this smart-ass entertainment columnist may offer some suggestions, I've got a multi-part plan for success for each of them.

It's almost here. Because you all were begging for it. The return of Renee Zellwegger in yet another sequel to 2001's Bridget Jones' Diary. Apparently, they're going to base the third installment on a series of columns author Helen Fielding wrote about Bridget trying to have a child in her 40s, and production will start later this year. Unfortunately, we're kind of over Ms. Jones at this point, after her last wacky and unnecessary adventure brought her antics to the edge of reasonableness. Sure, it'll probably make money, but it seems like that's really the only reason they're making it. (Well, that and actually giving Zellwegger something to do.) And it's not the first sequel that should never have existed. We won't go so far as to say that all sequels are a bad idea, but a good number of them are, and many of them involve Vin Diesel somehow. These are ten that we actively resent the existence of.

Now, being a semi-literate, heterosexual male, I didn't see Twilight. I mean, I wanted to, but I knew they were making a sequel, so I figured I had time to see the first one before the second came out. But now, all of a sudden, I'm seeing commercials for the new one, and it opens this weekend! It's been what, a few months since Twilight came out? I mean, I knew they were fast-tracking the thing, but this is ridiculous! I want to go see the new one, but I still only know the basic elements of the first, so I'm not even totally sure what's going on here, but this is what I think is going on in Twilight 2: Adventureland.

Who better than Michael Bay to direct the Transformers movie? Transformers are more than meet the eye, and Michael Bay movies are more than the eye can process! Seriously, Bay throws more explosions and moving robot parts up on the screen than the human eye can handle, which made it difficult for the Gallaga Bros. to bring you their latest installment of "Trailers Without Pity," their video series dedicated to breaking down movie trailers for the layperson. In this installment, Omar suffers a Michael Bayeurism while helping his brother Pablo explain what's going on in the trailer for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. OMG, you guys -- Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience is coming out this weekend, and we are soooo psyched. ...Just kidding, we aren't psyched. In fact we're trying to ignore it, because we hate their music and we hate their haircuts and we hate the fact that they seem to be the most popular band in America today. Not since Hanson mmmbopped their way into our spleens have we hated a band this much, and before you say that the Jonas Brothers are much better than Hanson, let us point out that that's like saying that Miley Cyrus is a better actress than Amanda Bynes. Since their popularity shows no sign of waning any time soon, we decided to brainstorm some ideas for Jonas Brothers 3D movies we'd actually like to see. Hopefully, the producers will take our suggestions to heart when extending the franchise.

McG is certainly an unusual person. I wrote "insane" in big letters in my notebook, and underlined it, but I think it is actually enthusiasm. Anyway, he helmed the most rip-roaring panel that I attended this weekend at Comic-Con. He was in the biggest room, with a hugely critical crowd presenting eight minutes of his take on the Terminator franchise just days after the Christian Bale rant leaked out all over the internet and basically made it look like an out of control set. But McG strutted out in front of the masses who had waited hours on line to see this panel (OK, and Watchmen too) and right out of the gate started talking about why he wanted to make this movie, and when a bit of feedback interrupted his tale and an audience member shouted, "that's fucking unprofessional," he laughed it off, and said simply, "I'm good." At least this wild and unpredictable director who riled the crowd by calling Christian Bale at home via cell phone (Bale's wife answered and told McG he was crazy... he readily agreed), plucked a member of the audience out to ask his question on stage simply because he was wearing a Cyberdyne T-shirt and him screaming to the projectionist that the trailer had "better be loud" got this girl in the mood to see how Skynet takes over the world.

Last night, millions of fans gathered around the TV to watch the Super Bowl, but not all of them were watching for the sport of it. Some were watching purely for the commercials, because so many new ones get rolled out during the broadcast. (And at $3 million a pop, they'd better be good.) The movie studios were not excluded from that, airing 11 different movie trailers during the game, including some brand-new ones (Angels and Demons, Fast & Furious) and a few slightly rehashed oldies (Star Trek, Up). While they only had 30 seconds to make their cases, there were five new trailers that did a bang-up job. Here are our faves from last night.

Now that that great TV show Pushing Daisies, is, well, pushing daisies with no new episodes on the schedule and no resolution for the characters or story, what are fans of the show to do? Well, if show regular Kristin Chenoweth is right, all they might have to do is walk down to the video store and rent the movie. In an interview with TV Guide, Chenoweth claims that series runner Bryan Fuller is aiming to make a direct-to-DVD movie that would wrap up the series' various storylines.
