I know, I know -- Steve Carrell and Tina Fey sounds like a match made in Heaven. I thought so, too. Who doesn't love 30 Rock, when it doesn't rely too much on guest stars, and who didn't love The Office back before it had slowly begun eating its own tail, like the Midgard Serpent? Sadly, this is not 30 Rock: The Movie, nor is it even a recent, sub-par episode of The Office. This is a movie featuring the stars of Baby Mama and Evan Almighty, and as such it is nowhere near as funny as I half-hoped it would be.

Camera... Action Jackson!, I Want My DVD, Lights, Little TV Shows That Done Hit the Big Time, The Kongs of Comedy, We Call Do-Over
I Want My DVD: The New ReleasesJust in case you're not reading our DVDs Unwrapped blog, we thought we'd clue you in on the latest DVDs we've gotten the chance to review. Sadly, we were turned down for a review copy of The Complete Fraggle Rock, but we'll keep trying.
Get Smart -- Too silly to be an action movie, to serious to be a comedy. It does, however, have Steve Carell in a fat suit.
Futurama: Bender's Game -- A sci-fi cartoon full of Star Trek references, injected with extensive Dungeons and Dragons humor. Is there anything more geeky? No. No, there is not.
The 4400: The Complete Series -- It's like a much better Heroes! Except this one's already been canceled!
Shrek the Halls -- If you're a completist when it comes to Shrek, animated holiday specials or Scottish Mike Myers movies, here's another 22 minutes for your collection.
30 Rock: Season 2 -- Now that the new season's started, you know you want to buy it.

Fans of 30 Rock and The Office rejoice! The stars of both shows respectively are teaming up to play a married couple in Shawn Levy's upcoming Date Night. Steve Carrell and Tina Fey, masters of uncomfortable comedy and hilarious slapstick, will embark on a series of comic misadventures in the 2009 release. Variety says Josh Klausner's script "follows a couple who find their routine date night becomes much more than just dinner and a movie." Since Steve and Tina are married, I know one thing that won't be happening on their eventful date night: Sex!

Animation Desensitization, Taste the Reading Rainbow, The Casting Conch, The Kongs of Comedy
Cloudy is Awesome, With a Chance of MeatballsWhether or not you've read the children's book it's based on, you're probably as curious as I am to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the upcoming animated film from Sony. I mean, come on -- it's a movie about food falling from the sky! Even if you don't consider the more horrific aspects of what that implies, it's something that's never been seen on film before -- although Adam Sandler's new movie Bedtime Stories apparently features a hail of gumballs. But does it feature as amazing a cast as Cloudy?

In addition to a few new movies, there are also some kick-ass reissues out this week. Sadly, no Slumber Party Massacre 2 Special Edition yet, but we'll keep our fingers crossed.

For Kids!, Separate but Sequel, You Know
Cats and Dogs Still Making Movies Together; Also, Mass HysteriaFor those of you out there that don't find the animation (mouth-talking, eye-bugging) of live-action animals super creepy, good news: Cats & Dogs, the 2001 flick that saw the merging of live-action animals and people with animation to tell the realistic tale of the high-tech espionage war going on between cats and dogs, is about to get a sequel. For the rest of us, we can at least be more vigilant about avoiding both Duke from those Bush's Baked Beans commercials and the upcoming trailers for Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. I remember when the trailer for Beverly Hills Chihuahua snuck up on me, and I almost had to go into therapy.

According to that cartoon, All Dogs Go To Heaven. A much hotter fate may befall Beverly Hills Chihuahua, the latest in a series of talking animal movies begat by original white rapper Rex Harrison's Doctor Dolittle. EW thinks the movie will survive the critical drubbing it will receive to become the surprise hit of the fall. I think EW is, to quote Big Daddy Kane, on dope or dog food. Voiced by Drew Barrymore, the BHC gets lost in Mexico and has adventures with a bunch of other dogs voiced by Latino actors like Paul Rodriguez and George Lopez. All of whom try to mount the rich bitch at some point -- oh wait, this is a Disney picture. I meant to say "all of whom just fart and say curses."
