Camera... Action Jackson!, Lights, Sci-Fidelity, We Call Do-Over
So You're Remaking Highlander? Here's What Not to DoFor many Highlander fans, there can be only one. The 1986 original, with its Queen soundtrack and Clancy Brown as the villainous Kurgen, is considered a classic, while its sequels... not so much. Besides being a blatant screed against global warming, Highlander 2 ridiculously gave the franchise a sci-fi twist and revived and rejuvenated its dead or aging characters, and the films went downhill from there. Now that Summit Entertainment is developing a remake with Fast and Furious director Justin Lin and Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, I feel an obligation to give them a few tips to prevent their new franchise from going down the same road as the original.

Director? I Hardly Knew Her!, Taste the Reading Rainbow, The Casting Conch, We Call Do-Over, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
Rose Red: McGowan to Play SonjaIf you're a fan of Conan the Barbarian, you're likely a fan of Red Sonja, his female counterpart, also created by Robert E. Howard. However, you're likely not a fan of her 1985 movie starring Brigitte Nielsen. Despite featuring Ah-nuld as a less-exciting warrior named Kalidor, it was campy as hell, with a kid sidekick and some fat comic relief, and the final nail in the coffin was that it deprived Sonja of her trademark steel bikini and gave her a ridiculously bad hairdo. Well, Rose McGowan has apparently been cast as the new Sonja, and if anyone was ever born to wear a steel bikini, it was her. (Sorry, Jennifer Lopez.)

When Connor MacLeod (of the Clan MacLeod) came back from death in the original Highlander, he got to carry around a cool sword, fall in love and chop off a bunch of heads while Queen played in the background. When George A. Romero's zombies came back from the grave in 1978's Dawn of the Dead, they got to...well, there was considerably less glamour in store for them. The words "flesh-eating" and "horrible plague" come to mind. But like the kilt-clad swordsman, they're getting another shot at walking among the living: Both cult classics are getting a new lease on life.
