The Casting Conch, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
Will Someone Cast Justin Timberlake as a Superhero Already?Justin Timberlake must be some kind of mutant. The man can sing, dance and act (if his recent Emmy nomination is any indication), and he was recently in the running to play superhero Green Lantern, before he lost out on the part to superhero hog Ryan Reynolds, who has already played Hannibal King in Blade Trinity and Deadpool in Wolverine, and was recently given a Deadpool spin-off. If JT is interested in playing a superhero -- and Reynolds will give someone else a frickin' chance (Double-R backlash!) -- we think he should keep trying. In fact, we've come up with a batch of comic book characters that we think Timberlake would be perfect for.

God Bless America Ferrera, Because She Clearly Needs Some Heavenly GuidanceWhen we heard that America Ferrera's TV show Ugly Betty was getting cancelled, we were happy for her, because that meant the talented actress would be able to go off and do something a little more challenging and less goofy than Betty. At the very least, the beautiful Ferrera would no longer be saddled with braces, big glasses and garish clothes. But her latest movie doesn't give us a lot of hope for the future. In the snoozingly titled Our Family Wedding, Ferrera plays a bride-to-be whose impending marriage is threatened by her father's rivalry with the father of the groom, who is Black, and also Forest Whitaker. Hilarity ensues, grandmothers faint and Whitaker and Regina King have a cake fight. Basically, the movie looks like a rehash of several other terrible films (Guess Who?, The In-Laws), and we had hoped that Ferrera was better than that. Here are some things we'd like to see her do in the future, all of which we might actually be interested in watching, unlike her latest movie.

Beyoncé Wants to Play Independent Wonder WomanAs if to say "you must not know 'bout me and my love of superheroes," Beyoncé Knowles has declared that she would like to play Wonder Woman should a film version ever get off the ground, according to an interview with the L.A. Times. She's so serious about it, in fact, that she's already met with people at Warner Bros. and DC Comics to discuss the possibility. Now, I haven't seen many of Beyoncé's movies -- I intentionally missed Dreamgirls and Pink Panther -- but I have seen her in Austin Powers: Goldmember, and if that was all she'd been in, I would have to say that I don't think she's ready for the JLA. (The JLA, of course, being the Justice League of America, of which Wonder Woman is a charter memb-- oh, never mind.) But considering she's about to play a threatened wife in Obsessed and Etta James in Cadillac Records, she must be doing something right, right?
