It's a Major Award!, Trailer Trashing, We Watches the Watchmen, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
New Watchmen Movie Footage Makes Goths Scream at Scream AwardsDespite looking like a goth version of the big meeting at the beginning of The Warriors, Spike TV's Scream Awards managed to pull in some pretty big talent Tuesday night. Liv Tyler, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, Ron Perlman and Jon Favreau were among the A-listers who showed up to get screamed at by a group of extras from Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson videos. (Both were in attendance.) But the real treat of the night was the appearance of the Watchmen cast, who brought along some new footage... okay, it was a lot of old footage, mostly from the first trailer, but there were some tasty gems buried within, ones that nobody had seen before, not even the press.

We Watches the Watchmen, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
A Detailed Description of the Watchmen Teaser FootageIf you've been following the Watchmen movie news, you may have heard that there were recently screenings of preview footage in Los Angeles and New York. Luckily, we were invited -- okay, we begged to be let in to the New York screening, where director Zack Snyder and original comic book artist Dave Gibbons answered our questions and showed us some mind-blowing stuff. Well, we took notes on everything, and we've posted a detailed description of the footage in our Mondo Extras blog! Check out our detailed recap, then check back to read the Q & As and hear our critical commentary.

Who Watches the Court TV?Watchmen Court Case Update! The date for the trial to determine the fate of Warner Bros.' Watchmen movie will take place on January 6, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That's exactly two months before the movie is currently scheduled to come out, and Warner has yet to change the date. The timing is fortuitous, considering that both studios were originally requesting movie-scuttling spring and summer dates, but Warner may still choose to push back the release date -- or have the choice made for them. While the judge in the case refused to block the film's release at this early stage, Fox may request an injunction after the discovery phase, where evidence and documents are shared. Or something. This is all really over my head, and I'm kind of waiting for a massive, shocking resolution to this conflict. Hmm... What would Ozymandias do?

Taste the Reading Rainbow, We Watches the Watchmen, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
Who Photographs the Watchmen? This Guy!Imagine being a fly on the wall of the Watchmen movie set. Better yet, imagine getting paid for it. Clay Enos is a professional photographer who also happens to be a friend of director Zack Snyder, so when Snyder offered him the job of set photographer for the highly anticipated film, he jumped at the chance. He soon learned that that meant that every photograph that appears in the movie, documents the movie, and promotes the movie would have to be shot by him. That included everything from the sepia-tone team photo of the Minutemen to last week's six different Entertainment Weekly covers. (Well, five of them -- Dr. Manhattan was a computer creation.) But whenever he had a free moment on set, he would shoot the portraits that are his signature work, and now those portraits -- of actors, extras and crew members -- are collected into a book called Watchmen: Portraits. We talked to him about the history-making shoot, his role in the movie and how he came up with the idea for Nite Owl coffee.

Sci-Fidelity, Trailer Trashing, We Watches the Watchmen, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
A Quantum of Watchmen: The New Trailer Hits the WebWell, the first non-teaser trailer for Watchmen appears in front of Quantum of Solace this weekend, but it's already up online, and it is good. At least, most people would say that it was good. There are still haters out there, including those who cry foul every time an element is changed from the original graphic novel, and others who simply can't stand director Zack Snyder's slow-motion filmmaking. But the trailer certainly looks beautiful, and it explains the murder-mystery plot pretty well to people who might not be familiar with the comic. Whether the haters are right, and this movie will end up being a huge mess, it's too early to tell, so let's just focus on what we saw in the trailer, shall we?

Legal Eaglese, Let's Go To The Video!, We Watches the Watchmen, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
Watchmen Production Diary Now a Whole Hell of a Lot SadderOnce a month, the official Watchmen movie website posts a new production diary, showing behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the film, showcasing the magnificent costumes, and the elaborate sets. It was presumed that they would continue until the film's debut, but now that the movie's release date is in question due to the ongoing lawsuit, they may have a few more videos to make if the release date gets pushed back to 2010. Perhaps that's another positive way to look at this situation -- if the movie gets delayed, we get more DVD extras!

It Came From San Diego, Let's Go To The Video!, We Watches the Watchmen, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
Let's Just Watch, Shall We?It's been a little while since I've talked about the Watchmen movie, but I thought it would be a good idea to take another look at it, since I'm feeling depressed. The next Harry Potter movie has been pushed back until summer, which means my wife and I won't get to see it before our baby is born -- and which means Watchmen will actually come out first! March doesn't seem quite so far away anymore! And since I'm pretty excited about it (perhaps more excited than I am about Harry Potter -- blasphemy!), I thought I'd share a few links to recent multi-media elements from the film.
