With the release of the movie Pirate Radio happening this week, and all of the crazy trailer footage of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Billy Nighy and Nick Frost as loose cannon radio personalities in the swingin' 60s, we got to thinking about our favorite fictitious DJs in movie history, and decided to make a little list of them all. A couple of these are cheating on the "fictitious" front, but c'mon -- like there's ever been much truth in the business of biopics anyway? Peruse the list and leave your favorites in the comments as well.

You know you're in for a mind-bendy metapalooza when you go to see a Charlie Kaufman movie. Since capturing the hearts of critics with his dizzying dark comedy Being John Malkovich nearly a decade ago, Kaufman has been fairly consistent in his subject matter, bringing his distinctly dreamy surrealism to meditations on love, identity, art, fame and mortality. His latest, Synecdoche, New York, is a continuation of this odyssey, though infinitely bleaker and, if possible, even more complex to unravel than his previous offerings. As a friend put it perfectly when we left the two-hours-plus screening, by comparison it makes Adaptation seem like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Adventures in Fakery, Separate but Sequel, The Casting Conch, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
Keeping Up With Comics CastingComic book movie casting news changes faster than Clark Kent in a phone booth. Just a few days ago, Michael Caine (better known as Alfred to some, and as Alfie to others) was telling MTV News that he'd heard it from a Warner Bros. executive that the studio wanted Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin. It seemed all but confirmed that Hoffman would waddle onto the big screen as the Bat's next nemesis. When asked about it the next day, though, Hoffman himself denied the long-standing rumor, saying: "No one has talked to me about it, ever -- never." He added that he's "such a fan of those [comic book] movies," but explained that he'd rather watch them than be in them.
