Camera... Action Jackson!, Lights, Trailer Trashing, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
New Iron Man 2 Trailer: Double Your Recommended Dosage of IronIf you were still awake after the Oscars ended last night, you may have caught Robert Downey Jr. on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he debuted a brand-new Iron Man 2 trailer. Whether you're a comic book fan or a Robert Downey Jr. fan, this trailer is must-see material, since it showcases a lot more fun lines from the movie, as well as some major plot points and details. Here are our six favorites.

Sci-Fidelity, Separate but Sequel, Trailer Trashing, We Call Do-Over, When Animal Movies Attack
Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Five Movies the Trailer Reminds Us OfThe first trailer for the Planet of the Apes prequel/remake/reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, has hit the Internet, and it looks pretty great. That's mostly because it looks nothing like Tim Burton's overwrought remake of Planet from 2001, but also because it seems to borrow as much from recent horror films as it does Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, the 1972 film that it partially draws on. Here are the other movies I couldn't help but think of as I watched the trailer.

Animation Desensitization, Sci-Fidelity, Trailer Trashing, Trailers Without Pity
Trailers Without Pity: AvatarWho could have predicted that James Cameron's follow-up to Titanic would take 12 years to realize and would be entirely about blue aliens living on another planet? A lucky few got to see 20 minutes of preview footage in IMAX theaters across the country on Avatar Day, but the rest of you have had to content yourselves with the online trailer, which has a lot going on in it, a lot of which looks kinda familiar. Luckily, Omar G. and Pablo G. watched it as well, and they talk all about in in their latest video installment of "Trailers Without Pity"... or, rather, their blue, animated avatars talk about it, which makes the whole thing very derivative. Like Avatar! Check it out below!

Camera... Action Jackson!, Lights, Sci-Fidelity, Trailer Trashing
Sucker Punch: Is It Simply An Even Geekier Inception?Regardless of whether you felt Zack Snyder's 300 was spectacular art or mindless drivel, or that his Watchmen was too faithful or not faithful enough, or whether you think he's a good choice to direct the next Superman movie, you have to admit you're intrigued by Sucker Punch. Sure, the latest trailer is chock-full of his overused slow-motion, but it's also packed with more geektastic imagery than any movie we've ever seen before, leading one man to call it Things The Internet Likes: The Movie, and numerous others to compare it to Inception due to its dream-state storyline. So is it actually Nerd Inception? Let's use what we've learned from the new trailer to take a closer look.

Trailer Trashing, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
The Green Lantern Trailer: Brightest Day for Some, Blackest Night for OthersThe full trailer for DC Comics' next big movie, Green Lantern, is out, and the fan reaction has been mixed, to say the least. Ryan Reynolds plays Hal Jordan, a test pilot who gets drafted into an interplanetary police force of aliens who all wear skintight green suits and wield energy rings run on willpower. And while some are calling it a pleasant change from somber superhero fare, others are calling it an abomination, given what we know about the 50-year-old character. As a fan of Ryan Reynolds and a longtime reader of DC Comics, I thought I'd add my two cents to the mix.

Animation Desensitization, For Kids!, Trailer Trashing, We Call Do-Over, You Know
The Smurfs Trailer: What We Hated, What We SmurfedIn all the hoopla over the new trailer for Super 8 (which looks like J.J. Abrams taking on The Goonies, a.k.a. awesome), people have happily forgotten that yesterday saw the debut of the first full-length trailer for The Smurfs. Now, I'm only a moderate Smurf fan, but I've been dreading this movie since I first heard about it, because I knew it would be a train wreck of Garfield proportions. Unfortunately, the trailer does not seem to be proving me wrong, as there are numerous elements that have dreading the day I will be forced to see it for review purposes. As a sneak peek of that review, here are the things I found the most annoying, terrifying and disgusting about the trailer.

Just when I think I can't get any more excited for Tron Legacy, I do. A new trailer for the 30-years-in-the-making sequel to Tron was unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con, and it's got a bunch of mind-blowing new imagery that makes the film look even more kick-ass, plus some more plot details get teased! It's getting to the point where I have to play Daft Punk on a loop just to keep myself from trying to climb inside my computer looking for adventure. Read on to see the trailer and read what stood out to me in it.

Little TV Shows That Done Hit the Big Time, Reviews of Movies We Haven't Seen Yet, The Kongs of Comedy, Trailer Trashing
MacGruber Redband Trailer: Explosively Unfunny! We really shouldn't have expected much from a film adaptation of a Saturday Night Live sketch. After all, of the ten movies that the show has spun off, you can count the ones that are entertaining on one hand (The Blues Brothers, Wayne's World, Superstar, list over). But the MacGruber sketches are so funny, with a bomb-defusing Will Forte getting held up by father-son issues, political correctness and heroin addiction, that we thought there was no way the movie could fail -- especially with co-star Kristen Wiig on board. But the redband trailer, which surfaced last week, makes it look like a huge mess. Maybe they're focusing on the more risqué elements for this particular trailer, but since it's the first one we've seen, we're gonna go ahead and assume the rest of the movie is like this, meaning a shoestring assembly of far too on-the-nose jokes.

It Came From San Diego, Trailer Trashing, You Got Comic Book in My Movie
Thor Comic-Con Footage Revealed, One Million New Thor Fans Are BornI get that Thor is a classic Marvel character, going back to the 1960s, but how many people do you know who love Thor? I'm not talking that one friend who's a mythology nerd, I'm talking fans of the comic book Thor. I have a ton of friends who grew up reading comics, and still read them -- many of them do it for a living -- and most of them (myself included) can count the number of Thor issues they've read on one hand. But now that the first footage from the upcoming Thor movie has been shown at Comic-Con -- and leaked online -- expect a lot more people to get Thor tattoos, because it looks pretty damn cool. Here's a guide to the trailer's awesomeness.

Camera... Action Jackson!, Director? I Hardly Knew Her!, Lights, Trailer Trashing
Zack Snyder's New Movie Sucker Punch Looks Insane, But Very FamiliarFans and detractors of director Zack Snyder have long been looking forward to seeing what the geeky auteur can do when he's not adapting other people's material. He successfully updated Dawn of the Dead, faithfully re-created the comic-book worlds of 300 and Watchmen, and even his upcoming animated owl picture Legend of the Guardians is based on a children's book, so the idea of an original Zack Snyder joint had fans salivating and haters waiting. Well, the wait is over, and the first trailer for Zack Snyder's self-penned Sucker Punch has been released, and while it certainly is eye-catching, it doesn't look terribly original. It looks like he took a dozen existing movies, put them in a blender and hit "Puree." Granted, it still looks pretty tasty to a movie freak like me, but the film's tag line, "You will be unprepared"? If you've seen any of these movies, you just might be prepared after all.
