So the long-awaited Tron Legacy finally arrived last month, and... it was widely considered somewhat of a disappointment. Depending on the level of nostalgia in the person you ask, it was a major disappointment. Impeccably stylish, it was also dark and somber and incredibly reminiscent of the first movie, which was a cult favorite at best. But while the reboot was a critical dud, it was a box office success -- not a smash hit, but enough of a hit to reportedly make a sequel the cornerstone of Disney's plans for the franchise (which also involves a cartoon, more toys and, God willing, a lightcycle-based theme park ride). But rather than continue down the same programming code as the first movie, we hope the next one gets a Clu and really shakes things up.

Reviews of Movies We've Actually Seen, Sci-Fidelity, Separate but Sequel
Tron Legacy: 60 Terabytes of Amazing on a 2 Gig Flash DriveIt's hard to think of a movie that's built up more expectations than Tron Legacy. It was teased three Comic-Cons ago, which is like a century in nerd years, and the teaser made people stand up and cheer even then. Plus, the original movie came out 30 years ago which has given at least two generations of geeks time to elevate it to mythological status in their minds, collect the limited-edition action figures and gloss over any flaws. On top of that, the most popular electronic act in the world, who already dress and act like computer programs, are scoring the movie. It's pretty much guaranteed to disappoint, right? I know some were, but I couldn't pry my eyes off the screen for the entire running time of the movie, and of all the emotions I experienced in the theater, disappointment definitely wasn't one of them.

There's plenty of Disney being dropped this week. Too bad there isn't much Disney magic included.

Just when I think I can't get any more excited for Tron Legacy, I do. A new trailer for the 30-years-in-the-making sequel to Tron was unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con, and it's got a bunch of mind-blowing new imagery that makes the film look even more kick-ass, plus some more plot details get teased! It's getting to the point where I have to play Daft Punk on a loop just to keep myself from trying to climb inside my computer looking for adventure. Read on to see the trailer and read what stood out to me in it.

It Came From San Diego, Sci-Fidelity, Separate but Sequel
Tron 2 Loses the 2, But Gains in AwesomenessLast summer, a teaser trailer for Tron 2, spelled "TR2N," was shown at the San Diego Comic-Con. Shaky footage leaked onto the Web, showing an older, bearded Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) watching a deadly lightcycle race from his monklike home inside a mountain in cyberspace. (A fictional Website searching for the missing Flynn may be closer to his location than it realizes.) At this year's SDCC, an expanded version of that same clip was shown, and this time, the title was revealed as Tron Legacy. While the footage is certainly impressive, thanks to famed commercial director Joseph Kosinski, the new title, Tron Legacy, is not.
