I Voted for GORE!, Reviews of Movies We've Actually Seen, Scary Monsters & Super Creeps
Daybreakers: A Great Idea, But the Devil Is In the DetailsIn Daybreakers, the Spierig brothers have come up with a pretty interesting idea: what if nearly everybody in the world was a vampire? Obviously, they'd have to preserve the human race somehow, or they'd run out of blood to drink -- nothing new there, we saw the vampires' attempt to farm humanity in Blade: Trinity, and even that was probably inspired by the farming of humans by machines in The Matrix. But what would happen as the blood supply dried up? That is something that would be interesting to see, so it's a good thing they show us, in grisly detail.

Foreign Relations, I Voted for GORE!, Reviews of Movies We've Actually Seen, Scary Monsters & Super Creeps
Park Chan-Wook has Deep-Down Thirst for Human MiseryTo describe Park Chan-wook's newest film, the vampire tale Thirst, to someone who has never seen one of his films is difficult. The movie is horribly violent, and features people doing terrible things to each other in between graphic sex scenes. But, like all of Mr. Park's films, the violence and sex are intercut -- and often interwoven -- with hysterical comedy, so you find yourself laughing at things that you might not normally find amusing.

A Festival for the Rest...ival, Foreign Relations, I Voted for GORE!, It's a Major Award!, We Call Do-Over
Hurry Up And Let the Right One In AgainHere at the Moviefile, we have a whole category just for remakes, reboots, and "reimaginings"--and it's stuffed pretty full. From Fame to Robocop and everything in between, there's a bountiful crop of reworked properties. As "old hat" as it can be to those of us with long enough memories (or long enough Netflix queues) to remember the originals, remaking the movies of yesteryear can make good financial sense for studios. A remake from a 20- or 30-year-old property can draw in brand-new young audiences, as well as the nostalgic viewers of the originals. For example, 24 years passed before Bedtime Story was remade as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and now that another 20 years have passed, they're remaking the remake. But now Hammer Films and Overture Films are bucking the trend by remaking a movie that hasn't even been officially released yet. Talk about the Hammer striking while the iron is hot.

I swear to God that this is my last blog post about vampires, werewolves or Witchblade for a while. I know, I talk about one or the other pretty much every day in the Moviefile, but they're all pretty awesome, and we just happen to be living at the right time to be fans of these things. And since I just happened to stumble across a couple of news items involving werewolves and vampires, I thought I'd clue you all in. If you're not interested, scroll down and read about Jennifer Lopez; if you are, then read on...if you dare!

It's not hard to find a glamorous vampire, or a kickass vampire. You can find scary ones, creepy ones, ones that make you want to sleep with garlic in your pajama pockets. But the movies are full of sexy, seductive immortals, too. Sure, the bloodsuckers in Interview With a Vampire and those in all the variations of Bram Stoker's Dracula are well-known, but what about those who toil away in box office obscurity? Before the cool teen vampire flick Twilight comes out later this month, here are a few vampires you may not have met before.
