Accidents Do Happen, It Came From San Diego, Strike Watch, Video Games Killed the Movie Star
Prince of Persia Premiere Postponed... PerplexinglyJust a few days ago at Comic-Con, the video-game-turned-movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was being talked up as a June 2009 release. Note the date on the promotional poster which, without a picture of princely star Jake Gyllenhaal, might as well be an ad for a Pier 1 sale. Variety is now reporting that Walt Disney Pictures has pushed back the release date nearly a full year to Memorial Day weekend 2010. Hey, maybe next year at the con Disney will hand out little "10"s you can stick to the posters they gave you this year!

Earlier this month, Das Gamer posted an interview in which director John Moore bemoaned the fact that the Motion Picture Association of America gave his Max Payne an R rating. Normally, this wouldn't be surprising, as the video games on which the movie is based earned "Mature" ratings from the ESRB, the gaming world's equivalent of an R movie. But the news did surprise Moore, who not only aimed for a tamer rating while filming, but saw The Dark Knight's PG-13 and expected to earn the same for his own movie. The association's reasoning, according to Moore, was that it "felt dark." Well, what a difference a few weeks makes. Game Daily is now reporting that Moore has won his battle with the MPAA and gotten Payne its PG-13.

I Voted for GORE!, Script From the Headlines!, Video Games Killed the Movie Star, We Call Do-Over
Warners Pours Some Hayter Aid on Lost PlanetWhen Warner Bros. spun the Hollywood Wheel o' Remakes today, it landed on "Video Games." So they hired screenwriter David Hayter, currently bringing his own Hayter-ation to the Watchmen adaptation, to pen the screenplay for the Capcom game, Lost Planet. According to Variety, "The vidgame revolves around an expedition to an ice planet that harbors an energy source with the potential to save mankind." I sure hope this energy source costs less than the $56 the BP gas station mugged me for a few minutes ago. With my luck, the energy source in question will be Soylent Green.
