If you were wondering if it was possible for Tim Burton's new, partially live-action, partially motion-capture Alice in Wonderland movie to get any weirder, the answer is "yes." We've already got "method actor" Johnny Depp eating his hat (though, to be fair, it sounds like he only took one bite; because that makes it less weird, right?) and Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter just being themselves, but all you have to do is add in one Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts, and you've got what could be the weirdest movie in the history of cinema.

Variety reports that Brad Pitt and Warner Bros. are teaming up for their second Homeric adaptation. The first one was Troy, which was loosely based on "The Iliad", and had Pitt running around showing off more than just his Achilles' heel. Now they're combining forces again, and this time it's to bring "The Odyssey" to the big screen. If you thought their first effort was a loose adaptation, just wait till you find out that this one will be set in space. Outer space. That's that big black thing in the sky that's full of stars. Meanwhile, Helena Bonham Carter has won the role of her nemesis, the Red Queen. The blind are seeing red over City of God director Fernando Meirelles' upcoming release, Blindness. The film, based on the novel by Portuguese Nobel Laureate Jose Saramago, tells the story of an unexplained case of mass blindness in an unnamed city. Julianne Moore stars as a woman hiding the fact that she can still see, presumably because she missed the episode of Larry King that caused the mass blinding: the one where he kisses Marlon Brando on the lips. Society descends into chaos, with the newly blind doing some truly despicable things like fighting, trading sex for food and reading Playboy, which, yes, comes in a Braille edition. The National Federation for the Blind is protesting the storyline of both film and novel. with its president, Marc Maurer, telling the AP, "[b]lindness doesn't turn decent people into monsters." There have been many rumors about who would play Robin Hood in Ridley Scott's upcoming Nottingham. Scott needed someone who could match wits with Russell Crowe as the Sheriff of Nottingham, and the latest rumor is that Scott finally found someone who fits the bill: Russell Crowe. At Wednesday's Walt Disney Studios Showcase, the Mouse announced a ton of new projects, most of them starring Johnny Depp. Not only will the actor definitely be playing the Mad Hatter in director Tim Burton's motion-capture CGI Alice in Wonderland (as rumored back in July), he'll also be returning as Jack Sparrow for yet another Pirates of the Caribbean movie (that's four now, for those of you not counting at home). What are they going to call this one, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Successful and Still Mildly Enjoyable Franchise?

Universal Pictures set sail this morning, armed the harpoon guns, and took aim at a classic. According to Variety, the prey was Herman Melville's Moby Dick, which Universal will film as a "reimagining" with director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and scribes Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. The writers "revere Melville's original text, but their graphic novel-style version will change the structure." Cooper calls it the original "action-adventure revenge story," for which they will get to "capitalize on the advances in visual effects". According to the report, "Ahab will be depicted more as a charismatic leader than a brooding obsessive." At this point, poor dead Herman Melville crawls out of his plot at Woodlawn Cemetery and is about to capitalize on the advances in Google to look up the offices of Universal Pictures.
