Casting Cornucopia

Lots of casting goodies have come out since yesterday. Like Oliver Twist looking for another helping of sweet, sweet gruel, step on up with your bowl in hand and get ready to feast on these:

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Amanda Peet has joined the cast of Roland Emmerich's 2012. She'll play the ex-wife to John Cusack's struggling writer. They, along with a few other survivors, will face the end of the world together--she with her new rich husband, he with a particularly chilly rejection letter from The New Yorker. Peet should feel right at home in this one, as there were probably many times during her stint on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip when she felt like she was waiting for the apocalypse.

Also from The Hollywood Reporter comes news of new cast additions to How to Make Love to a Woman. Josh Meyers will play a character who seeks sex advice from former porn star Jenna Jameson when he can't figure out how to satisfy his girlfriend. (Step one? Put on a cop's uniform, plumber's tool belt, or pizza delivery boy's hat. Step two? Surround your bed, kitchen counter, or living room sofa with a camera crew and a director who tells you where to stick it and when. Step three? Proceed until your girlfriend convincingly fakes it.) Jameson plays herself, while Krysten Ritter joins the cast as the girlfriend, and Ian Sommerhalder plays a rival love interest.

Variety reports that Christopher Eccleston has joined the cast of Amelia as Earhart's navigator, Fred Noonan. (Insert your own "if only he still had a sonic screwdriver" joke here.) Judging by one picture of Noonan, it looks like a pretty apt casting choice.

File this one under casting non-news: James McAvoy says in The Guardian that he will not be playing Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, despite rumors to the contrary. Maybe he's tired of having furry feet.
