What's worse that Jar Jar Binks and Jake Lloyd? Jar Jar Binks and Jake Lloyd in 3D, of course!
Over the course of his career, Liam Neeson has proven his mettle against an international prostitution ring, Sith lords, a haunted house and Batman. Now in the new Joe Carnahan-directed survival tale, The Grey, the Irish actor takes on one of his fiercest opponents: a pack of wild wolves.
Steven Spielberg gets his epic on with this sweeping story of a boy and his horse set against the backdrop of World War I. When a poor British farmer spends all of his savings on the titular steed at an auction, his young son forms a strong bond with the horse -- which he names Joey -- that continues even after it is shipped away to the front. The horse then passes through the hands of various owners, while the boy grows up and goes to war himself.
David Fincher returns to the realm of serial killers and the men (and women) that pursue them with The Girls with the Dragon Tattoo, a Hollywood-ized treatment of the first installment in Stieg Larsson's bestselling Millennium trilogy.
Last year, Garry Marshall gave everyone another reason to hate Valentine's Day by releasing the all-star romantic comedy, Valentine's Day, in which a bunch of obnoxious Angelenos had a variety of misadventures in that crazy little thing called love. The improbable success of that movie convinced Marshall that he should ruin another holiday, so here comes New Year's Eve, in which a bunch of obnoxious New Yorkers have a variety of misadventures while the big Times Square clock ticks down to midnight. Jeeze Garry, why'd you have to go and mess with a holiday we actually like?
It's time to play the music! It's time to light the lights! It's time to welcome back the Muppets to the big screen with the franchise reboot, The Muppets, co-written by and starring self-professed Muppet lover, Jason Segel. The How I Met Your Mother star plays Gary, a small-town guy whose best pal Walter is the world's biggest Muppet fan. After learning that the old Muppet theater is about to be demolished by an oil magnate, the duo (along with Gary's girlfriend, Mary, played by Amy Adams) hit the road to reunite Kermit and the gang by any means necessary.
After a false start that resulted in original director Steven Soderbergh leaving the project, this adaptation of Michael Lewis' best-selling baseball book chronicling the sabermetric approach to the game pioneered by Oakland A's GM Billy Beane went forward with Bennett Miller at the helm. Brad Pitt plays Beane, while Jonah Hill makes his dramatic debut as scouter Peter Brand, a character reportedly based on real-life scout Paul DePodesta.
Rumors of Conan's return to the big screen had been swirling for years. At one point, it even seemed like a certain Austrian bodybuilder would once again wield the sword of the character that made him a star in the tentatively titled King Conan: Crown of Iron. But then that guy opted to go into politics instead and the barbarian remained lost in the Hollywood wilderness.
The day that every child of the '80s has dreaded is here: the just-released trailer for Craig Brewer's Footloose confirms that this remake of the beloved 1984 classic is a real thing that will actually be in theaters in October to teach a whole new generation about the dangers of censorship and the exhilaration of dancing around abandoned warehouses in a wife beater. Based on this early glimpse, Footloose 2.0 looks an awful lot like its predecessor, right down to the VW Bug our hero Ren (professional dancer Kenny Wormald slipping into the tight, tight jeans previously worn by Kevin Bacon) drives around the small Southern burg of Bomont, which has banned dancing and "dangerous" music after five kids died in a car accident following a wild party. Sure there's a lot of truth to the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," but there are a few ways Brewer could update the '84 version to reflect this modern age. For example...
Are ninjas still cool? Are they becoming cool again? Because while the trailer for Ninja Assassin (by the director of V for Vendetta) looks awesome, it feels like we should have gotten this movie years ago, when ninjas were kinda in the limelight. Not before The Matrix, of course, because this movie uses a lot of that movie's bullet-time slo-mo action -- except here, it's shuriken time. Omar G. and Pablo G. watched the trailer, and they have plenty to say on the subject of ninjas, which has surely gotten them marked for death by several of the more secretive ninja clans out there.
