Michael Bay Swears He Didn't Move It

Michael Bay Swears He Didn't Move It As a kid, Michael Bay must have loved scaring the crap out of his friends at sleepovers until someone's mom came into the room and yelled at everyone. (Turns out, he's more like me than I ever would have thought.) Bay's production company, Platinum Dunes, and writer David Berenbaum have been tapped by Universal to bring Ouija Board to the big screen. The production company -- which brought ups 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2005's The Amityville Horror and 2007's The Hitcher -- will be taking inspiration from the popular game to make a blockbuster comedy. Kidding! According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The film will be a supernatural adventure with the Ouija board playing an integral part of the story. The movie is not taking a Jumanji-like approach, which involved a game coming to life." Summer campers across the country are breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Hasbro, the game company behind Ouija, inked a six-year "strategic partnership" with Universal, but they'd approached writer Berenbaum (Elf, The Haunted Mansion, The Spiderwick Chronicles) before the deal was even closed. For anyone interested, the Universal slate does not yet list Trivial Pursuit, Candyland, or Operation as movies currently in development. I am hereby offering my screenwriting skills for the inevitable Scrabble movie, if only to bring my Friday night victories over my boyfriend (using words like "syzygy" and "nymphs") to the big screen.

Bay's Platinum Dunes, which is clearly known for its horror remakes, is currently filming Friday the 13th , and is in pre-production on The Birds and A Nightmare on Elm Street. While I'm not normally a horror fan, I just may go to the theater for Ouija based solely on my nostalgia for adolescent sleepovers. Though personally, I'm even more excited for the potential spin-offs Bloody Mary and Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.
