Quarantine

Quarantine There's a really creepy, realistic feel to the poster, trailer, and website for Quarantine. The text on said website makes the whole business seem like a long-buried news story. Something to the effect that on March 11, 2008, the government sealed off an apartment complex in L.A. with no details, no witnesses, nothing. The residents were never seen again. And now we're getting the whole story. In the form of the movie. It's very Blair Witch, whose website still says something about students disappearing in the woods in 1994, and their footage being found a year later. Yeah, I know it's fake, just like I know Quarantine is fake, but do they have to be so creepy?

Anyway, the Quarantine trailer confirms that it's much like Blair Witch: Dexter's sister plays a reporter who's shadowing the fire department. It's all cute and funny, until: "The police are here. It might be a little more serious than we thought." You think? Might it end with you and everyone else disappearing forever (or at least for seven months, but in today's sped-up world, that's kind of like forever)? They go into a house and see a woman-turned-demon and our fearless reporter tells her cameraman to "tape everything, you hear me? Tape everything!" That's probably why later he tapes what looks like it might be her death or disappearance. Nice setup. I guess the only problem is that they cast someone we all know instead of putting all unknowns/non-actors in the movie, which is part of what made Blair Witch such a creeptastic success. I still think this will generate a massive cult following, but it's just not the same when we all know from the beginning that it's a fake. I mean, even that interesting web address shows us right away that it's a Sony movie site. On one hand, thank you for not actually creeping me out. But then again, couldn't you just go all the way and really scare us to death? It would have been nice if you'd at least tried.
