If you saw Meryl Streep on the most recent cover of Entertainment Weekly and, like me, thought, "How is she a relevant cover topic, exactly?" then you, like me, overlooked her latest movie, Doubt, which opens in limited release this weekend. If you were as ignorant as I've been about this movie (and, seriously, where have I been?), the trailer might come in handy.
Here's what you'll gather: It's based on a play of the same name, and it's about that most riveting of topics: a Catholic school. Not just any Catholic school, though. This one has the honor of harboring a rigid, cold, mean, scary nun played by Streep. And when she suspects the parish priest (Philip Seymour Hoffman) of sexually abusing a young boy from the school, it seems she'll stop at nothing to prove it -- even when everyone, including the child and his mother, is telling her she's wrong. It looks intense and the dialogue's a little on-the-nose, but Streep's performance appears to be on par with some of her best, so I'd expect an Oscar nomination for that, at least.

My university did this play last year, and it was amazing, especially the actress performing the Meryl Streep role. I am very excited to see this.
I read this play a few years ago and it is very moving.
