I really hoped Jim Carrey was done making this movie. But apparently he's not. Because Yes Man is here, and it's basically Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty. I'm not completely opposed to Jim Carrey making the same types of movies he's already made. If he'd like to make another way over-the-top physical comedy like Ace Ventura I'd be first in line to see it. After all, no one else could do what he did in those movies. Whereas a movie like Yes Man, while likely pretty funny, is more generic than a guy as comedically talented as Carrey deserves.
The trailer basically shows us that this is the same as those previously mentioned movies in that Carrey's there, a normal guy with some "issue" that needs fixing. And then a gimmick comes along to "fix" him, and it's funny. Wackiness ensues (he drinks his first Red Bull, he gets in a fight, he throws a bridal shower, he kisses a girl and ends up with her gum). Oh, and the movie's a little bit Dumb and Dumber, too, because there's a spicy, hot sauce joke (although I'm thinking it might not kill anyone this time, since Carrey's the one consuming it). Ultimately, as with all of the other more generic Carrey movies, we are leading to an ending where he learns a lot about life and achieves happiness with the woman he loves (Zooey Deschanel this time around). Although maybe this movie is unique, because this time the relationship might be helped along by the fact that he can't say no, even to those spam email offers that will help him increase the size of ... well, you know.

this movie is rip from the Sienfeld skit when George decides to say "Yes" to everything...
I see that Yes Man has been highlighted in the EternalOptimist.com blog as an uplifting movie. You can read the article Jim Carey says laugh at the pain, laugh at the confusion. Seems like a great movie for these tough times.
This movie is based on a book of the same name. The book is hysterical, as it is a real-life account of the author's decision to say "yes" to everything for one year. The movie looks like a Hollywood-ized watered-down version.
