I'm a little wary when I read the words "uplifting drama" and "adapted from the book by renowned pastor and author Bishop T.D. Jakes" -- because what I read is "sap" and "religious sap" -- so Not Easily Broken starts out a couple paces behind for me even before I've seen the trailer.
Even with a couple of actors who I wouldn't mind sitting through a movie for -- Taraji P. Henson, so scene-stealingly great in the otherwise sappy The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Wood Harris, aka Avon Barksdale -- it winds up looking just as sappy as I imagined. It's about a youth baseball coach (Morris Chestnut) who wants to have a baby with his wife, played by Henson. But she has a career and doesn't want a baby. I mean, we all know women can't have a career and a baby, right? And he's trying to get the father of one of the kids on his team to be a better man. The moral: Everyone becomes better by the end through hard work and compromise. I'm guessing she's going to get pregnant, he's going to keep coaching the kids, and Avon Barksdale's going to be a better father. Awwww. I'm practically crying ... at the clichés.

I'm guessing she gets pregnant by accident and then they decide to keep the baby even though having a kid would oppose her previous views about family and career.
Or, we'll find out that the woman had an abortion before she met her husband and feels so guilty about it that she feels she never deserves to get pregnant again. Some anti-choice drivel like that will no doubt play a large part.
I don't love mooshy stories about love, family etc.. but I'm man enough to admit when a story jerks some emotion. There is nothing wrong with a film that inspires people to not give up when the going gets tough.
I Hyped Not Easily Broken on Everhype and gave it 86% which I think is fairly accurate.
