So, Lee. He's got a roasted eggplant ravioli with a caper berry sauce. Gordon thinks the garlic is far too strong, but Joe thinks it has a pleasing southern Mediterranean taste to it. "It's a shame because he has that level of bravado and arrogance," Gordon says more in sorrow than in anger. "And he thinks inside, 'I tasted it; it's good enough.' Well, [expletive], sorry. It's not [expletive] good enough." That last part was more in anger than in sorrow, I guess.
Let's crush someone's dreams, shall we? Mike's simple fettuccini with peppers and mushrooms is deemed sufficient enough to keep him around. Or as Gordon puts it: "You will not be taking your apron off." Or to put it even more confusingly, you will not not be continuing on MasterChef. And Tracy? "You will not be participating in MasterChef any longer," Gordon tells her. This time, there's no tease -- she's gone. Let's remember Tracy as she spent much of her time on MasterChef -- tearing up at the slightest provocation.
That leaves us with Jake and Lee. Gordon expected to see both of them in the final: "So I'm a little bit pissed, to be honest, that you are both standing there." Imagine how they feel, man. Especially Jake, who's just been summarily dismissed. That leaves us with Lee, who can go back to his lukewarm rivalry with Sharone, and one last opportunity to say goodbye to Jake. "You have been a huge source of inspiration," Gordon tells him. "Stay away from construction, because you are a talented guy." We get a few misty water-colored memories of Graham sticking up for Jake during the auditions show -- "I put my neck out for you, and I would do it again in a second," Graham says -- and just like that Jake is gone, to fume about how much better his burger was than Sharone's.
Next time on MasterChef: Two more people go home! Four people stay right where they are! I'll try to remember to watch this show instead of part one of the Top Chef finale from Singapore!
