There is a knock on the door, and Miss J. enters. He tells the girls that they're going to be seeing a very important client today, and will need their portfolios. They follow him onto the patio where Franca Sozzani awaits! Franca is, of course, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia who, even while being kind of scary, continues to be a welcome respite from Ann Shoket. Miss J. tells the girls that it's not every day that a fledgling model has tea with Franca Sozzani, and that he'd like them to show her their books. Hannah is first, and Franca asks what attracts her to this work, and what she thinks it can give her. Hannah says that she wants to make images that are in a magazine that you don't flip by. Rather, you tear them out and put them on your wall. She also thinks the whole world of fashion is amazing. That response doesn't really get personality points, does it? Hannah asks Franca how she got started, and Franca says she started much like the girls... by chance. She adds that modeling is not easy work, and tells the girls that they have to use more of their personality and use their bodily "mistakes" to their advantage. So if they have funky teeth or legs or whatever, it doesn't matter -- they have to find a way to turn those into an asset.

Brittani shows Franca her portfolio, and explains that she's from a small town. Miss J. asks how many of the girls have really looked at Italian Vogue before the competition, and Franca interjects to let all of us know that we can read it online. Brittani says that her mom mocked her for being a hoarder because she'd get American Vogue in the mail and save every single issue under her bed. Her mom encouraged her to throw them away, but Brittani would not. The day that they find a cat skeleton under a pile of Vogues is the day when her mom really needs to take charge of this situation. Hannah says that she kept catching Franca looking at Brittani, and wonders if she didn't show enough personality to stand out. I always feel bad for the poor girl who gets the "no personality" complex on this show. And it does seem that Hannah has a personality, even if that personality is largely focused on accusations of being devoid of personality. And often drunk.
