Natasha is up first and cracks herself up by saying, "G'day mates!" You know all the other girls are punching themselves that she got to that choice line first. Tyra reminds us about the correspondent challenge, which gives her the perfect excuse to show a clip of her emerging on the Tyra Banks Show looking really skinny. We then see the full Cover Girl commercial, which isn't too bad overall. In fact, I think these girls might be the most beautiful sheilas I've seen in the bush! Renee starts and finishes the whole thing, and each of the girls gets at least one line, which means that each of the girls got at least one line right. Bravo! They also look lovely enough to make the photographer in the commercial actually loosen his neckerchief. I love that the code for "You've given this guy a giant boner" in Cover Girl world is, "Wow, look how sweaty his neck gets when you walk by! You incorrigible minx, you!"
The judges look at Natasha's best take. Tyra says that she can't believe that a girl from Russia, with a heavy Russian accent, no less, has delivered such a great Aussie commercial. Natasha is filled with joy and a shimmer of false disbelief at this compliment. Tyra commends Natasha for changing her inflections, and Twiggy adds that she got the comedy out of the sheila line, and it was brilliant. Natasha and her big cantaloupe head are really proud. Tyra does say that Natasha's poses were too sexy in the end, and that she wrinkled up her nose and pushed out her lips in the way that Tyra told her not to. She tells Natasha to relax her face. I'm going to make that my new saying when someone is getting all mad. "Hey, bitch, relax your face a little." It works, doesn't it?
Dionne is up next. She messes up at least once in her best take. Ms. J. says that she has almost a West Indian accent. Dionne loves to do that! Tyra tells Dionne that when you're going after a younger viewer, you have to act extra peppy and wide-eyed to the point where it appears there's something kind of wrong with you. Erika says that even if the accent is bad, the key was to have a sense of humor about it.
Then we have Jaslene. Her take is... not as good as one might have expected when we saw it being filmed. She looks alternately really confused or mad or like the sun is in her eyes. Tyra says that Jaslene committed to the accent, as wrong as it was, but that she was thinking too much. If she had relaxed and let it go, she would have had a stellar commercial. One additional problem with Jaslene is that she does not have a melodious voice. Erika notes that Jaslene frowns when she speaks, which she's probably not conscious of, but also is not pretty. Tyra says that it's important for Jaslene to learn how to give expression and to be big. She demonstrates that there's a big difference between Jaslene's drag-queen-on-a-float-at-Pride wave at the end of the commercial and a wave that is pretty and coquettish yet energized. I do wish Janice was still on the show. I would just love to see what she thinks of her young cha-cha doppelganger.
