Roll with the Punches

When we return, the girls discuss the shoot back at the house. Chelsey asks Kayla why she had such a hard time with it, and Kayla tells the others that she was sexually assaulted for about a year and a half when she was younger. She also tells them that no one, from her girlfriend to her family to her friends, knows about it. Kayla interviews that she now realizes that it's healthy to talk about it, and she's going to deal with it. She feels better about it and doesn't think it will affect her in the competition. She wants to win, and won't let her lot in life get in the way of it. In reality TV, your terrible lot in life is actually seen as a positive, so I'm glad she's not needlessly worried.

With that, we're backstage pre-panel! Tyra does a weird little shuffle as she enters, and ALT asks if her skirt is so tight she can't walk. Tyra replies, "No, I'm just being dumb." TRUER WORDS. The girls enter, and I think all but Liz are wearing leggings, with varying degrees of success. There are prizes, there are judges. Zac Posen is the guest judge. He looks like a little doll with plastic hair. Jane is up first for evaluation. The judges watch her best take, which is pretty good. Zac commends her on her magic moment with the male model at the end of the commercial, and ALT agrees that it worked. Nigel says that Jane had the lines down, the light looked good, and her outfit looked good. However, he still wants to see more of her. In other words, Jane might not be quite as dull as Esther but she's inching closer.

Liz is up next. She's so dumb that she actually cracks up at herself cracking up at her own mistakes in the commercial. Need I mention that the judges are not laughing? Nigel wastes no time in venting to the others that Liz was an absolute and utter mess, and what's more -- and more irritating -- she laughed through the whole thing. But while Nigel thinks that Liz needs a good old-fashioned cock-punch, Tyra can see the deeper story. She asks Liz if she's afraid of looking foolish. Liz says that she is, and Tyra adds that the way to get where she wants to go is not blowing it off. Liz, who is either a real mess or selectively savvy, starts to cry. She says her biggest thing is her daughter and she doesn't want to fail her. Everything Liz does is to make sure that she can take care of her daughter, and she's happy. Tyra tells Liz that that's her purity and her truth, and it will make her shine. She goes so far as to say that Liz might actually have an advantage over the other girls because she has that "extra thing." It should make her hungrier, and make her fight, and make her take this very seriously. We don't flash back to Nigel for his reaction, but I'm guessing that he probably still thinks that Liz is a jerk. She's historically been a pain in the ass, and if she hasn't gotten it by now I'm not sure she's going to.
