Someone approaches Kate's desk at the police station. She greets her visitor as "Jack." Kate fills in the back story by establishing that Jack's an old friend on the force who hasn't been in touch lately. Jack returns the favor by alluding to Kate's growing interest in unusual cases and mentioning that she's been moved off the downtown beat. Kate's hair is practically white, which might mean that she's been really scared by all the supernatural events she's witnessed. Or it might mean that TNT's hairstylists are as useless as their "original programming" executives and that no one should mourn when their Atlanta offices are destroyed by enraged mutants in 2002. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Jack hands Kate an envelope and says, "A friend of a friend thought you might want this." She pulls out a photo of the Hyperion Hotel, which has an "Angel Investigations" business card paperclipped to it. Stuck on the photo is a Post-It reading, "He's moved." They bought the hotel, right? How hard would it be for Kate, a police officer, to find Angel if she was looking for him? Whatever.
