Tommy comes to Laurel's place and she's not there. Oliver's voice-arrow is there, though. Vanch has twiddled it to play a recording of his voice so he can threaten to leave pieces of Laurel all over Starling City unless the archer shows up. Tommy brings it directly to the police, and Detective Lance wonders how this guy knew Laurel was connected to the hood. He's looking around at all the police, and he appears to decide he can't trust them. He takes the Arrowphone out of his desk drawer and, looking sick (nice touch!) says, "I gotta go make a call."
Diggle's in the Arrowlair, looking conflicted. Oliver comes in and is very angry at him for spying on his mother, but Diggle gets him to listen to his recording. It's a little garbled, but it contains things like, "I made it clear to him persuasively that his plans endanger the undertaking." When someone speaks that vaguely, you know they're bad news. Who talks about "the undertaking" like that? And the part about the Queen's Gambit being sabotaged is also on this recording, so Oliver also has to deal with that. And now Lance calls to tell him that Laurel's been kidnapped. Oliver's been a jerk this episode, but he's being pulled in a lot of directions right now.
Flashback! Oliver's tied to a chair. The other guy says it's nothing personal, but he can't allow Oliver to stay alive. Oliver seems to about break his wrist getting out of the ropes and he punches the guy. The guy laughs cheerfully and offers a hearty handshake and his name: Slade Wilson.
