But that conviction has just hit its first major obstacle, in the form of celery on Nicki's tuna salad sandwich. She starts waving her hand around to summon Ana so she can send it back, sending Margene into veritable seizures of humiliation. Ana returns to the table, apologizes on behalf of the kitchen, and promises to return with a celery-free sandwich. Margene bitches out Nicki for being rude and embarrassing. Which Nicki is, to be sure, but not so much in this particular case. Even Barb's thinking that Margene's overreacting. But Nicki's not unreasonable: "If you feel so guilty, then leave her fifteen percent." Margene looks like she's ready to leave Nicki with fifteen percent of her ass.

Later, Bill comes home and smugly watches Barb wrestle with the kitchen garbage for a moment before stepping up to help. These touching domestic moments. Apparently the two of them talked about the Sun-Times article on the phone, off-camera earlier, because Barb brings it up now. She says the article is fine, then adds, "At least it would be, if Nicki would leave it alone." Why not just say "no," then? Bill asks how everything else is going, and Barb says, "I could use another pair of hands and a longer day, but other than that…" If Bill's considering telling her that another pair of hands is on the way, he thinks better of it for now.

Bill enters Nicki's house (alas, he's not still carrying a large sack of garbage when he does so), and she cattily announces to him that Margene has a new friend: "A waitress." Bill casts an irritated look through Nicki's back door, and asks how she knows. Nicki tells her about the lunch, and starts going on about Margene's "inappropriate attachments" to women, especially those in the service industry. It's hard for Bill to take Nicki's side on this, as she's being a total snot and besides he's currently watching Margene playing with Raymond in the back yard. Bill says Nicki's acting jealous -- Margene is allowed to have friends. "She's got us," Nicki says, like that fixes it. Bill says that in that case, maybe the wives should try doing more fun things together. You know, like friends do. The very concept seems completely alien to Nicki's logical Vulcan mind, so rather than pushing it, Bill decides to go back to watching Margene with the kid in the back yard. That's much more relaxing anyway.
