Barb's in her bed alone, when her cell phone vibrates on the bedside table. Before answering it she unplugs it from the charger, which is the first time I've ever seen anyone on TV do that, and I've recapped three seasons of 24. It's Joey on the other end. He's sitting in the shotgun seat of his car, which is parked outside of his cabin. He tells Barb that Lois has gone on strike from helping with the baby, and there's a woman named Kathy in his house that Lois wants him to marry. Barb is shocked, and warns Joey not to get sucked in. Joey wonders if Kathy was Bill's idea. Barb says no with understandable confidence, although she doesn't add that Bill is completely uninterested in Joey at all right now. Still, Joey doesn't want Barb to tell Bill that he doesn't want a second wife. He mumbles, "I think any man who lives the Principle is…selfish." Barb gently tells Joey not to talk about Bill like that, as much as she might agree. He apologizes, and she says it's okay, and he tells her, "You're the only thing keeping me going." Barb doesn't exactly eat this up like his previous compliment; her only response to this one is a startled-blank stare at the far wall. Joey ends the call. Kathy comes out to his car and simpers that she got the baby to sleep. "Oh, great," Joey says, and continues sitting in his car as she goes back in the house by herself. No courtliness tonight.

Next morning, Nicki takes Wayne to school. He's in his short-pants uniform that makes him look like a miniature Angus Young, and Nicki has gone "incognito" in a beige frilly-front blouse and matching slacks. Wayne dashes off to play with some other kids, leaving Nicki alone in front of the building. She wanders shyly over to a group of chatting women, who barely favor her with a "hi" and then keep going as if she's not there. Nicki stands there wondering what to do with her hands, silently cursing herself for not wearing a disguise with pockets. And then she sees the woman who gave her that look in the chapel the day before, and who recognizes her now. You're not fooling anybody, Ma Ingalls, the woman's expression seems to say. Nicki loses it, grabs Wayne, and runs for the car.
