Back at the bar, we're getting the requisite spilling of vague embarrassing moments from high school, with Sandy giving Dinah plenty of ammo about stuff Helena did. Helena wants to go clubbing, but Sandy says she has to work. "This late?" "It's my most creative time," says Sandy, whatever that's supposed to mean coming from an alleged "headhunter."

There's a throwing star lodged right a dude's forehead. Helena's observing a crime scene from afar while taping the scene for Barbara. "Looks like your ghost is risen," she says. Barbara tells her to see if she can get the star from Reese, because police are pretty good about giving up murder weapons to mysterious vigilantes. This time, there's a Chinese character on the star, which makes Barbara gasp and dramatically remove her glasses, but she won't tell Helena want the symbol means. Huntress pops on down to talk to Reese and he tells her the victim worked at this vault, which was robbed eight years ago and the only thing left behind was a throwing star. "No more Batsymbol," Helena points out. "That doesn't mean it wasn't him," says Reese, and I'd really like to know if "throwing-star logos" are definitive proof in courts of law.

Barbara's in her big, empty room, the kind every former superhero has, where there's nothing else in the room but a retired costume in a museum display case, dramatically lit. You'd think the rent in the Clocktower would be high enough that Barbara would want to use the space a little more efficiently. Alfred looms. "I remember the first time I fitted you for that cowl," he says, when she, Master Bruce and Master Dick "used to haunt the rooftops until dawn." "We thought we could do no wrong. We ruled Gotham's nights. And answered to no one but ourselves," says Barbara, who admits that might have been the problem. Alfred takes the mask and says they were just doing what they thought was best to protect people. "And you were magnificent at it. But if I may be so blunt, Miss Barbara. This mask, this suit, no longer fits." She sighs, and mutters something about her metabolism changing. Well, no. But she tells Alfred that the symbol on the throwing star means "life" or "to be alive." "Then it's true," says Alfred, subscribing to the "throwing-star logo is irrefutable proof" school of thought, that Lady Shiva is back -- but someone died that night. "Because of me, my recklessness, someone died that night. Someone Shiva knew, someone close to her." Alfred seems worried that Barbara's guilt is blinding her to the reality that Shiva still needs to be stopped. "I'll just give her what she wants: a fight," says Barbara. Alfred tries to convince her that maybe Helena should do the fighting, but Barbara isn't having it. "It's not her mistake. It's not her fight."
