Elsewhere, Reese is doing his standard "walk to my car lost in thought" thing, which means that Helena's about to pop up, although this time she just sort of strolls up behind him, but he still jumps out of his skin when she says hello. He's not having any luck finding Hawke either and was just checking his old safehouses. Seems to me Frankie would know all those safehouses too, so I don't see Hawke hiding out there. More good police work. Reese wonders aloud why they're even doing this, and Helena reminds him: "State's evidence, the end of organized crime, he's your father " Reese does his trademark snort thing. "Your friend Dinah, that look on her face. That's not the first time I've seen it." He doesn't mean Dinah, but other people who his dad has caused to make the scrunchie-face throughout his career. Reese is skeptical about whether his dad can change. "People don't just up and change because they say they will," he says. "My mother did," says Helena, and the synthesizer strings start to swell so you know you're in for A Poignant Moment. Helena tells Reese the heartwarming tale of her mom giving up being a cat burglar after she had Helena, which I hate to tell Helena isn't exactly the first time a woman has given up a career to raise children. And Helena talks about how her mom was a great cat burglar as if it was a real career instead of, you know, criminal activity, and I swear Reese is looking at her like he's wondering if she's smoking crack, and it's yet another moment on this show that's supposed to be moving, but just gives me a vague sense of unease instead. The moral: "Sometimes, people can surprise you." Reese blinks a couple of times, and then they gaze into each other's eyes for about half an hour until Reese's cell phone rings. It's his dad. "Where are you?" says Reese, as Helena lets Barbara know they've got him. Reese tells his dad he'll be right there, then hangs up. "He's across town at Twenty-Sixth and Pailey," and from what I understand, Greg Pailey and Geoffrey Twenty-Sixth were a writer and artist team who revitalized the Batman series in the mid-'80s. Helena and Reese take off to go find Hawke.
