But we get there first, and find out that Hawke is just hiding out in the stairwell leading from the sidewalk to a basement apartment, and you'd think a crime lord could find a better place to crash. He sees a strange pair of boots and, since he's hiding from the law and a dangerous hitman, decides the best course of action is walking up the steps to greet the mysterious stranger. It's Dinah. "I called Jesse, how did you --" "Word got around," interrupts Dinah, acting all cool. He starts going on about how he can't take back what he did. "So we're both going to have to learn to live with my mistake and for that I am sorry." He sounds sincere, and Dinah's pondering this, and thankfully before she can go all scrunchie-face on us her ruminations are interrupted by Larry Mullen Jr., who has somehow managed to find Hawke as well. "You have a choice to make," he tells Dinah. "You can move, or you can die." Such a reasonable hitman. Dinah looks back at Hawke, who's making a "baby, please don't go" face, and, trying to pretend this is a dilemma that's tearing her apart, steps aside. Larry Mullen Jr. smiles, in that cold way that unstoppable killing machines tend to do. Commercials.
So LMJ strides by Dinah, who then kicks him in the back, so I guess she was tricking him. Only the force of her kick sends him right at Hawke, and just as you're thinking, "Oh, good one, Dinah," Hawke gives him a hands-clasped two-fisted blow that knocks LMJ down the stairwell, and now you're thinking, "This guy really isn't much of a hitman, is he?" Dinah and Hawke haul ass down the street; Dinah contacts Oracle to let her know she's with Hawke and give her their location. "I think I pissed off that hitman a little," says Dinah, which made me laugh. LMJ's now chasing them, and Barbara tells her not to lose him. "Head two blocks east to the hospital," she says. "Thanks for the vote of confidence!" yells Dinah, but Barbara tells her it's an abandoned hospital. Naturally. There's never a shortage of abandoned buildings around when a bad guy needs to get his ass kicked.
