Sorry I Killed Your Mother. We're Still Buds, Right?

Outside, Reese tells his dad that the feds are prepping a safe location for him, and they should call Reese's mom so she can pack a few things. Hawke says he doesn't think it'd be right to uproot her, since she just planted her tomatoes, and Reese is all, Dad, she'd rather be with you than with her tomatoes, and Hawke tries again by saying he thinks she'd be happier just staying put. "What are you saying?" says Reese. "I'm tired. I need some time to think," says his dad. Reese is all, think, ponder, do crossword puzzles, fine. But then you're going to the feds, right? And his dad says, "How about we see what happens?" In other words, fuck that. Reese looks sad, but not overly surprised. Hawke says that ratting on his friends isn't in his nature, but Reese doesn't have to worry, because he's "out of crime, for good" and offers to disappear from Reese's life. He offers his hand for Reese to shake, while someone starts strumming an acoustic guitar. Reese shakes his dad's hand. "You're a good son, Jesse," he says. Reese looks at him -- then slaps the handcuffs on his dad's wrist. Heh! I'll be honest; I should have seen that coming, but I didn't. As Reese cuffs his dad's hands behind his back, Hawke plays the "I'm your father" card and tells Jesse to trust him. "I'm sorry, Dad. It's just not in my nature," says Reese. And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue and the man in the moon…

From the steps of the hospital, Dinah asks Helena if she thinks the cops will be able to keep Hawke behind bars this time, and Helena says it looks like Reese going to see to it personally, which is all well and good until you remember that Hawke escaped last time under Reese's watch. Maybe the police department might want to consider assigning someone else to guard Hawke -- someone other than his own son, for crying out loud.

Anyway, problem solved, everyone's happy. I mean, Black Canary is supposedly still dead, but I'm sure that will be proven untrue before the series runs out. Dinah and Helena stroll off down the street so Helena can tell Dinah that she probably would have tried to kill her mom's murderer too, and adds that it was impressive that Dinah turned it around and was able to protect Hawke, which Helena doubts she herself could have done. "Your mom would have been proud," she says. The deep thinking out of the way, the girls playfully bicker about whose com set is "cooler" and whether Reese is actually Helena's boyfriend, while The Earnest Acoustic Warbler advises that "first you save yourself, then you save the world," which is a bit of a shout-out to an old The The song. Not that he'd know that.
