Wade and Barbara are having dinner with Wade's parents, and I can't believe Barbara's even speaking to them after finding out they don't think she's good enough for Wade eight episodes ago. Wade's joking about how his parents didn't want him to become a teacher because of the low pay, and his parents deny that that's the case, and they might have said they're proud of him, but I was too distracted by my amazement at how much fun everyone's having, even though Barbara's legs don't work or anything. Wade tells his parents that Barbara runs her own business, and they both seem really interested in this unable-to-walk woman's "online gourmet baking thing," and I hope Barbara has at least put up a fake Web site if she's going to continue using this alibi. And Wade's mom asks Barbara if Wade told her about Wade's mom's macadamia fudge torte which won the "Gotham County bake-off" and Barbara says she'd love to get the recipe, and Wade's mom says, "Well, it is one of Wade's favourites," and Wade's mom has this weird slow deliberate way of speaking that is driving me up the wall, and Wade's mom starts in with the recipe but she is rudely interrupted by Wade's dad, who cuts in and asks Barbara if she sells online, even though she just said she did, so quit interrupting, you drunk old man. Then he jokes that he used to be pretty good with computers, "back when we used to call them 'big iron,'" and everybody's laughing, but I'm not even sure what the joke is there, and maybe Wade should have warned Helena about his parents' mild dementia. Then Wade's mom says to Wade's dad, "Joe, honey, listen, Barbara and I were talking about baking," and I guess she's chiding him, but she said it in such a carefully modulated voice that it sounded like she was just making conversation.

Anyway, Barbara hears Dinah say, "Oracle, Delphi flagged a suspicious death," but since Wade's mom is talking really loudly, all I was able to make out the first time was "suspicious death," which I suppose is enough, and Barbara excuses herself from the table. Dinah tells her a Joey Norvalino, twenty-three, was killed in New Gotham Park, and adds that he was in town for the New Gotham High reunion. "I'm on my way," says Barbara, and revs up her little scooter.

Back at the table, Wade's mom is telling him "it'll never work" and how weird for them to be going over this again and Wade says, "I thought you liked her, Mother," and Wade's mom says Barbara isn't quite "normal" and of course we see Barbara listening in as Wade's mom asks him what kind of life he can possibly have with "a person like that," and Barbara makes this face like she's not really surprised, and I guess she shouldn't be, since she supposedly learned this eight episodes ago. And if I were Barbara, I think I'd be most upset that we don't hear Wade telling his parents to ram it or otherwise defending her in any way.
