Fearless opens his eyes, back in the here and now. The house flashes back to the present. A woman comes out from the house, asking if she can help Fearless. Fearless apologizes and says he just knew someone who used to live here. "Oh, the old child molester Coach Barker?" she asks. "Yeah, we get that all the time. We really should paint the place or put up a sign saying he moved. People are always trying to break in and kill us."
I don't know what day it is, but sometime during the past couple of scenes, Fearless changed his clothes. Now he comes up behind an older black woman who's tending to her garden. He flashes a badge. She giggles; she's his mama. He threatens to take her in for planting pot. She says she's tired and asks if he's going to help her stand up. He does. She asks what he's doing around. She asks if he needs her to go undercover and break up an illegal mah-jongg gambling ring. Fearless forces a chuckle before asking her about Coach Barker. Mama Fearless instantly gets defensive, asking why Fearless is bothering with that old name. Fearless reminds her that she told him he had died right after they moved out of their home: "He didn't die, did he?" "Nope." She says she didn't tell him because it was awkward, and something they didn't talk about back then. Coach Barker moved away, and there was talk that he'd abused a child. Fearless asks if Coach Barker went to jail. Mama Fearless says they didn't do things like that back then, and wonders why Fearless is asking about him. Fearless inhales and says Coach Barker's name came up in a case, but that Fearless thought he was dead. Mama Fearless gets worried: "Dear God. He didn't do it again, did he? Did he?" "I don't know," Fearless says.
Up on the roof, Ray says he thought Fearless quit smoking. Fearless says he did, but that it turned around and hired him back. Ray asks why Fearless called for him. Fearless hands over a small square of paper and says he needs Ray to find someone for him. He says that he knew Trevor Jenkins when Trevor was a kid. Ray says he'll do it, but first he needs to know a couple of things: "Why are we having this conversation up here instead of downstairs at your desk? And where is your partner?" Fearless says he can't smoke inside the building, and that Wahlberg's working on another case. By the way, Ray and Fearless are standing next to a giant sign that reads "Jesus Saves." I wasn't going to mention it, because I figured you could read it from there without me saying anything, but just in case you've got symbolism astigmatism, there it is. Ray goes inside. Fearless calls, "You find him, you tell me first. I just wanna talk to him, Ray." "Yeah, talking," Ray says. "Talking is good." Close-up on Fearless and the "Jesus Saves" sign. I'm not kidding.
