Cut to Carl and his crony coming down from the attic. They walk right over to Henry's room. They see a figure in the bed. The crony lifts his gun and cocks it. There's a noise.
Joel. (That's Wahlberg.) The three girls leave during The Joke. Doreen is a little shaken up. I don't really understand, but she's cooking pasta right now, even though the family would have already eaten dinner by now. Wahlberg asks her if she's expecting any company tonight. The girls remember there's a "Nurse Ratched" coming on tonight. There's a long explanation about who Nurse Rached is, as if none of us has ever heard of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and eventually Wahlberg says he'll call in and get one of their own to be the night nurse. "He got one so he could sleep if he needs...help during the night," says Doreen. I'm not really sure what Doreen means, other than that they have a night nurse to administer heavy medication, I guess. But since Doreen doesn't even sleep near her husband...forget it.
Flashback Film of the night nurse arriving. Joel smiles when he sees Teresa. He's so moved we go to slow-motion.
Flashback Film of their almost kiss. Wahlberg tells Fearless to wait another hour.
Cut to Wahlberg telling Ray he hopes they didn't have the wrong house. Ray tells him to call when they figure it all out.
Teresa is leaving. Wahlberg asks if she's tired. She says she will be when she gets home. She has a couple of days off, so she's going to drive up the coast to Big Sur. She's never been there; neither has he. She tells him to take care of himself. Tra la la. Murderers on the loose.
Wahlberg gets in his car. As he drives away, he notices a meter reader walking down the street. HOLD EVERYTHING! Wahlberg calls up Fearless in the van and asks about the meter reader from the day before. This is all way too suspect for Wahlberg -- people walking around reading meters. Obviously, the meter readers are the murderers! They must break into houses during the day when the house is empty! They wait in the basement or the attic, places cops don't check! Fearless says he's sending in backup as Wahlberg runs to the house.
Wahlberg runs into the house without knocking, interrupting the breakfast that Doreen has made immediately for her incredibly-quickly-teleporting daughters who are now at the table having a grand ol' time. Nobody's even slightly frazzled. Wahlberg tells them to leave the house, and the three women make a huge racket out of leaving, one that would have alerted Carl and Co. immediately that the cops were back. Doreen, against character, leaves her husband now that she knows there's someone in the attic right next to her husband.
