Flash-forward in Flashback Film to where Ray tells the captain he's going to step up and go in the building.

Flash-forward to Ray taped to the pole. Eat Me tells Flood they're taking three hostages and the manager. "Let's go," he says. Flood and Eat Me just walk off with the hostages, and Ray yells to Les to let him go before he walks off with them. I don't understand how they can be so chatty, but Ray gives a little monologue: "You were Jack Wesson! You were bigger than Sonny Crockett, bigger than Mannix, bigger than Cannon!" Les says he can't. Ray says that Les was a hero to millions of people, and still is. He points out to Les that his face is on the televisions in the room. It's a news report, saying that one of the hostages is Les Van Buren, "former television star." This touches Les to the core. "Les, get me loose!" Ray shouts. Where are the people with the guns? Where did everybody go? Les walks over to Ray and says, "Okay." Ray asks if he's willing to risk bodily injury. "Yes," Les says. Ray grants Les full police powers for the entire duration of the situation. Les asks what he should do.

Ray finally tells Les to get a knife and cut him loose, but of course this is when Flood realizes one of his four hostages isn't in the van going to Mexico. He walks up and asks what's going on. He tells him to get in the van. Flood tells Ray that he's not going to Mexico. Ray says that if Flood kills him, they won't be able to get into that van. Flood gives Ray his cell phone and tells him to call Cherie and tell her he's not coming home tonight. "Go to hell," Ray says. Flood says he wants Ray's wife to get the same phone call he got about his brother when the cops broke his back. Oh, so that's how it is in their family. Ray says he knows the cop who took Flood's brother down: "His name was Andy Walker. Yeah, Flood, I know who you were since I come in here [sic, sic, sic]." He tells Flood that Andy Walker was on his knees praying that Flood's brother would walk again: "The pain goes both ways." Then Ray makes a poor choice, deciding to insult Flood's brother, saying he put an old lady into a coma. He says he's glad that if anybody's back had to be broken, it was Flood's brother. Flood's brother holds the gun to Ray's head and tells him to call his wife: "Tell her you're not coming home for dinner tonight. Call your wife." So much repetition in this show. Ray dials the phone and says, "Yeah, Cherie. I got a little problem here, at work. Things are though. I might not get out. So, if anything happens to me, I got some cash stashed. It's under my camping gear. Maybe two grand total. Yeah, look under the camping gear. Honey, honey, honey, calm down. I need you to understand what I'm telling you." As Flood pulls his phone back, Ray repeats that he loves her a few times, but none of it was very sentimental, and there wasn't any emotion on Ray's part. Flood steps back, puts a down pillow over his gun, and shoots Ray. We see the shot several times, see Ray's body fling back several times, hear the sad opera music play several times. Blood drops from Ray's body, mingling with the down feathers on the ground. Commercial.
