The recruits enter the mess hall and eat some very unappetizing looking scrambled eggs and some sort of mush that could be grits or possibly oatmeal. Recruit Meyer asks Recruit Wolf for permission to address the group. Meyer stands and says that he thought about things last night. He looks like he can barely keep from laughing while he relates that his mom left the family when he was young, and his father was always away on business, so he didn't have any discipline. Please tell me that the others will see through this. Thomson nods at Meyer as if to say, "Yes. Work the sob story." Meyer asks for everyone to give him a second chance. In an interview, Recruit Brown says that Meyer impressed her with his speech, and anyone should be given a second chance. Oh, no. Meyer sits at the table and cries. No, really. He works up some tears. In an interview, Recruit Moretty (the chick) says that a lot of people thought Meyer's speech was fake, but she didn't, and she thinks he deserves a second chance. Meyer continues to cry as some of the women comfort him. In an interview, Meyer explains that after his "little speech," he realized that he should have cried to give it more realism, so when he sat down, he thought of something sad to bring forth tears. I hate him. Have I mentioned that? I know I'm supposed to, but I can't help it.
Title: Mission Training. The recruits do pull-ups and such. Recruit Haar gives it her all. Recruit Wolf delegates some tasks to the others. Some recruits have to move sandbags around. Others have to clean the bathroom. Recruit Coddington does jumping jacks while saying, "I'm disciplined Recruit Coddington." I don't know what that was about. DI McSweeney yells at Recruit Wolf because there are supposed to be people in the rec room. Sometimes when DI McSweeney yells, he sounds like the late Sam Kinison: "You live in a desert!" The recruits run down to the shoreline and pick up two inflatable boats. Then, they do a bunch of push-ups and get yelled at some more.
4:45 PM. First Run. The recruits jog down the road, and DI Rosenbum asks if they have any questions. He reminds them that it's three quarters of a mile down, and three quarters of a mile back, for a total of one and a half miles. This will be their shortest run. Yet another reason (besides the early wake-up time) that I could never be on this show. ["Oh, yeah. Count me out." -- niki] But at least I acknowledge that now, instead of quitting on the first day. They start the run. DI Taylor is the turnaround point, and she yells out their times as they reach her and head back. DI Rosenbum is first, and Recruit Park is right behind him. Recruit Thomson rounds the corner with all his flab. Recruit Whitlow is right behind him. Recruit Lauder rounds the turn and informs DI Taylor that he's "out of gas." Heh. Thomson has crossed the finish line, and Recruit Jackson congratulates him. Everyone seems to have crossed the finish line.
