at this point, Steven emerges from his flashback. "You live by the sword, Harry. It's time for you to wake up now. Dear God, I don't ask for much. Please, just let him wake up." Steven gets up and spots Brooke standing in the doorway. "Hi, Daddy." "Hey, baby." They hug, and cry. My favorite scenes with Brooke are the ones in which she says almost nothing.
The bell rings just as Ronnie finds the new classroom to which the Dungeon kids have been reassigned. "I'm sorry. I mistakenly went to the old classroom which is, of course, a crime scene. There's no change. He hasn't gotten any worse, which is good, but he's still critical." The class is silent. Ronnie reaches deep down for some comforting words, and comes up with this: "The best way I know how to deal with troubling circumstances is to pick someone I admire, and try to gauge how he or she would deal, and emulate the best I can. Let's pick Mr. Senate. He's a fighter. You knock him down, he just keeps on going." I think she means that he gets back up, because the way she said it calls up an image of Harry crawling forward along the ground after you knock him down. Anyway, the class is still silent. "So somebody tell me what you're working on." Someone tells Ronnie that they're reading The Jungle. "Okay. Let's talk about The Jungle." Luckily, they cut away at this point, so we don't have to listen to a fake discussion.
ICU. Steven sleeps next to Harry.
In court, Ronnie is testifying. I guess that shot of Steven sleeping was to indicate that time has passed, so Ronnie can suddenly be in court instead of teaching. "I was trying to convince him to go out for a beer," she's saying. "He was very upset about Jamal's situation and I was looking to, I don't know, take his mind off it." Then she goes on to explain in great detail the scene we already saw that opened the episode. Also, Armin Shimerman is the judge. Yay! The lawyer asks Ronnie about the liquor store robbery, and she confirms that Jamal told her and Harry that Amaad shot the clerk. Amaad glowers, angry that people are trying to hold him responsible for the murder and the attempted murder he committed this week.
