Previously on Breaking Pointe: Zach is competing with Ian's magnificent quads for a job at Ballet West. Rex is playing Christiana's prince in Cinderella, even with his gimpy foot. Allison's Dread Boyfriend Jonathan wants her to give up her career and be his little wife in dying Detroit. And Beckanne is stagnating because Wendy thinks her name is Becky-Anne.
Rehearsal! Everyone is limbering up as Adam recaps that this is contract week. He's already offered Allison a promotion to soloist, and this week he'll meet with the rest of the company to discuss their futures with Ballet West. Rex is anxious about whether his foot injury will affect a possible promotion to soloist, while Zach is fretting some more, again, about his rivalry with Ian. Josh is also hoping to be promoted from apprentice to full member of the corps. Ronnie watches wistfully through the window as the dancers go through their paces.
In Ballet West 2 class, Zach flirtily wrestles with a girl dancer, Kaya, who's gotten a reimbursement check from the company. He calls it her Chinese New Year present, and Ian snippily reminds him that Kaya is Japanese, so stop being such a tiny Napoleonic racist, Zach. Ian quite clearly wants to fling Zach out a window, and I can't say I disagree with him.
As the boys do their leapy dancey thing, Adam and Chris watch placidly. Adam voiceovers that the decision between Ian and Zach is very tough. Ian is tall and nice-looking with good feet, but sometimes his technique suffers. Zach is a wee man while Ballet West is a tall company. So as we've seen, that would make it difficult for him to get a leading role partnering all those tall girls.
Fairies rehearsal. Allison, in voiceover, says she's sacrificed a lot for ballet, but she still loves her job so much. She asks Malin (I think) a question about the choreography and then in her talking head says she hoped she would have a good idea of her future after the trip to Detroit, but now she's even more confused. She screws up a little in rehearsal and apologizes.
Casa Beckanne. Her BFF Katie, who moved to Idaho last season, is visiting. In a flashback we see Katie's going-away party. Beckanne says Katie and Ronald are doing long distance, reminding us that Ronald is still alive even though we haven't seen him at all this season. Katie asks if Beckanne is playing Cinderella, and she can't believe it when Beckanne says she's the understudy to the understudy. They gossip about Chase, who is a year younger than Beckanne (19 to her 20). Yawn. I think I have the same bookshelf as the one behind Beckanne.
