Ronald, who is not Ronnie, explains that he comes from a big ballet family, and we see a brilliant photograph of Ronald with his three brothers and two sisters in costumes that I am confident their mom sewed herself. He says he's 19 and that he has seven brothers and sisters and five are dancers. Rex is one of them. Rex, 24, is in love with Allison. He says it's confusing, this being in love thing. Allison is 28, and she chooses ballet over love. In the movie she will be played by Reese Witherspoon, or maybe Alison Brie.
Ronnie ARRIVES ON HIS MOTORCYCLE because of course he does. Ronnie's 30 and proceeds to explain how he is an unlikely ballet dancer, because he likes cars and motorcycles and he does not give us a third reason, but perhaps it rhymes with Colonel Angus? Christiana explains that she's 32 and has been with Ballet West since she was 19. There is a suggestion of Julie Kent about her nose.
Katie is 23 and Ronald is her boyfriend. She says some her previous boyfriends have been girlier than Ronald, despite the inherent girliness (her implication, not mine. I think ballet is plenty butch) of Ronald's profession. With his stocking cap on Ronald looks like a CW knockoff of Robert Pattinson.
Katie explains that ballet contracts are just one year at a time, and that if you don't get promoted, you end up spending your best dancing years waving a rose around in the back of the chorus. Er, that is, you get fired. Ballet West is about to announce who gets contracts for next year, so all the dancers are sitting around fidgeting and hyperextending their ankles. They discuss who's nervous and what they think might happen. Christiana says that due to her long tenure, she gets two-year contracts, which seems fair. Beckanne does not seem to agree. Oh my god, she's Maureen.
Rehearsal. Ronald explains that Christiana is the prima ballerina, so when she performs, and even when she rehearses, you shut it. Unless you are Adam, who is telling Christiana how awesome she is. Allison explains that Christiana is a ninja, because she's probably in excruciating pain from spending the last 20 years with her negligible body weight balanced entirely on her big toes, but you'd never know, because her giant smile never wavers. Christiana says that the demand for perfection as a prima ballerina -- and also as a human being -- is hard to live up to. So I guess she's probably not having an affair with Adam?
