Tomorrow Is One More Day I Get to Dance

Christiana makes her entrance, looking ethereal and gorgeous and so very sparkly that I just want to close her up in a music box and keep her forever. She and Rex do their dance and all twelve of the folks who've paid to be there (or "paid") are just spellbound. I do wish the show would use the actual Cinderella music, though, rather than whatever swoopy Air knockoff they scored the scene with. Prokofiev is obviously in the public domain. CW viewers could do to learn more about classical Russian composers!

Adam introduces Beckanne's number, the "fiery gypsy girl's solo" from La Esmeralda. As Beckanne dances, Ronnie ever so charmingly describes her as "a stunning little animal." How is this paragon still single? And finally, Allison and Rex performing the pas de deux from But Never Doubt I Love. Allison reflects that she feels like she and Rex are acting out their relationship on stage, and says if Rex would give her another chance, she think they could make their relationship work and be really happy together. Man, Allison just does not know how to be single.

The costumes for Allison and Rex's number are very sexy, with mesh cutouts everywhere, and the dance itself is passionate and angry in places. Allison repeatedly launches herself at Rex's head like a bony little heat-seeking missile. So her description was pretty accurate, then. I feel like it could benefit from more dramatic lighting than is available in this ornate ballroom, but it's pretty impactful all stripped-down and plainly presented. In her talking head, Allison says she's scared of Rex rejecting her.

And now the ballet is over and it's time to schmooze and drink. Chris greets some would-be donors and generally looks crazy handsome and charming. The Fug Girls are right: everyone is hotter in sunglasses. Ronnie and Silver are also doing their parts to circulate and squeeze money out of the assembled company. The four performers make their entrance, and Silver remarks that she could really feel the passion when Allison and Rex were dancing, but she's not sure if they're really good actors or if their pas de deux was five minutes from turning into a live sex show. Rex would like to consume some potent potables.

Josh, wearing his enormous blerd glasses, thanks Adam for bringing him here and says he wants to have a bigger role in Ballet West going forward. Adam is very natty in pinstripes, and says he's happy that Josh is so driven to succeed with the company.
