Credits. The next morning, Kevin and Rebecca and Nora are all abuzz over Kitty's unexpected trip home, particularly since now they'll have to cobble together a birthday party on no notice. It seems that Kitty's wishes for "no fuss" will be heeded about as well as Nora's were. Anyway, on the short-notice tip, Rebecca says she knows "a great Mexican place" in Hollywood. Kevin knows the place she's talking about and loves it; "I go there every time I see Wicked." Hee hee. He says it's always packed, but Rebecca knows the hostess. Nora makes another token effort at sticking up for Kitty's wishes, but Rebecca thinks she's just feeling weird about how last year... Kevin jumps in: "What, Dad took the final plunge while she was blowing out her candles?" You know, it's interesting: we don't know a whole lot about Kevin's relationship with his dad, or lack thereof, but my guess is that Kevin's smirk right here isn't entirely appropriate. Yes, he's bitchy and we love him for it, but mocking the anniversary of his father's death after only a year? Maybe not. He goes on to suggest that maybe there's a "Kitty curse," and that celebrating her birthday at all isn't such a great idea. Nora says that the only thing Kitty's cursed with is her shitty politics. "I heard that," says Kitty, having rolled out of bed at around 10:30 or so, as is her wont. She's greeted by a chorus of "good morning, sleepyhead" comments, to which she bitchily replies that she had trouble sleeping since the mattress in the guest room (stink-eye at Rebecca) is very uncomfortable. Rebecca easily offers to trade rooms, but Kitty declines, the better to hold on to her passive-aggressive grudge.
